Bex thought she had stepped off the train into a warzone, the market wasn't a market it was a mess, stalls were knocked over, some were on fire which people were putting out, the second she got off the train she ran towards the markets, Colt wanted to get off the train and help but he knew that he couldn't. One wrong move and the second that he stepped foot back into the Capitol he would have been shot on sight.
Bex dropped her bag down by one of the fences and helped Mrs Dodds lift her stall up, "What the hell happened here? Tell me you don't have anymore Mockingjay things? You are smarter than that."
Ben Dodds, Mrs Dodds ward ran over and helped the two ladies, "Peacekeepers, every couple of days they're here causing chaos, came in mass. Said there were rumours of a revolt, said that they needed to check everything. But they didn't just check us...Bex you should get home."
She could feel her heart drop, something had happened, "What?" Just by the look on Ben's face she knew exactly what had happened. The fact Ben had his hand on her arm just confirmed it, he wouldn't risk it unless it was something bad.
Nash had run his mouth
The second that she knew Ben had the stall, she ran back to her bag picking it up before going straight to Victor's Village.
If Ben was right and Nash had gotten hurt he wouldn't be in her house, or his. He would be at Cecelia's where she could keep an eye on him. Bex dropped her bag off at her gate before getting to Cecelia's house.
Thankfully for her the door was already unlocked, Victors houses normally were. If someone broke in who would really want to mess with murderers?
"Ce!" Bex shouted as she walked in
"In here!"
Bex followed where the sound came from until she walked into the living. She stopped dead in the doorway when she saw Nash laying on the couch, bruises all over him, Cecelia washing the blood off of his face whilst Woof was bandaging a gash on his arm. Isla was sitting on the couch holding a cloth to her face and when she moved it Bex saw the gash right on the side of her head.
Nash looked like he did when he came out of the games and Bex met him, he looked awful, but instead of the rest of the Victors who came out looking like they had the world on their shoulders. Nash had come out relieved, he had settled a score that he had been wanting to squish for two years.
But just like everyone else Nash came out bloodied and bruised. With a bucket-full of problems that hadn't come to light yet.
"What the fuck happened?" Bex asked, she got over to Isla first who just took her hand and nodded, she was in a better situation than Nash,
Bex walked over to the couch and crouched down in front of Nash, taking his hand in her own, "What we say about running your mouth, huh? It gets you nowhere."
Nash tried to laugh but it just came out as a pained noise, "You should see the Peacekeeper."
Bex looked at Cecelia, and just from one look she knew what Bex wanted to hear, "He'll be fine. His ego will be skyrocketing but what else is new?"
"They're gonna come for us." Woof said as he sat down on the armchair, "He's gonna come for us all, just like Lucy. It's happening again, just like Lucy and Delila."
Bex leaned over and took Woof's hand, he was panicking just like the rest of them, she had no idea what he had seen when he was younger but it wasn't anything nice, "Woof...breathe."
She needed to take her own advice, she felt like the walls were closing in on her, like the room was getting too small for her to be in
Nash smiled, blood still on his teeth, "Let the fuckers come. We can take em'. We won the games for Christ sake."
"We can't take anyone." Cecelia quickly said, "Not like this. Nash we are not risking our people, my kids, my husband."
Guilt was all over Bex and Cecelia could see it. A million things were going around her head, this was her fault.
Snow must have seen her leave with Finnick. She lost sight of him and this was what happened. He told her to stay away and she didn't listen. And now, her brother was laying on a couch in pain all because he stood up against something she couldn't do.
Bex didn't even want to think about what Isla had done but she explained anyway when Bex gave her a look, "The Peacekeepers were picking on the Hazzir's...I wasn't going to stand around and let that happen."
He did something that she wasn't brave enough to do.
Bex quickly stood up and walked out of the house, she needed some air, she needed to get out of the room with three people that she loved that had no idea that she was the reason for all of this. She took a deep breath as she leaned on the porch fence.
"I'm going to ask you this once." Bex span around and saw Cecelia walking out, shutting the door behind her, "Whatever answer you give me, I'll take, I won't question it...did you do something? When you were in the Capitol? Did you say no?" Bex shook her head, "Did you do something that Snow would hate?"
Cecelia saw that Bex was practically shaking from holding in everything that she was feeling, guilt, sadness, terror, anger everything and any emotion. Bex quickly nodded.
"Oh sweetheart." Cecelia sighed as she pulled Bex towards her, immediately hugging her.
Cecelia had been there from the beginning for Bex, she was her mentor, her friend, the closest thing that she had to a mother since the Capitol took Rebecca Dreesen. Bex expected her to be mad to tell her to leave but she did none of that.
She just held her on the porch as Bex sobbed into her shoulder, she really thought that she had gotten away with it, for once she could have gotten away with something goof for her. That for once her actions wouldn't have consequences. But after years of being in the game she should've known better.
No one comes back from playing against Snow.
"This was not your fault. You hear me? Not your fault at all. Whatever you did, he doesn't know. This was just him trying to scare us, we're a bomb, always have been. He put us out...we're back now."
President Snow had underestimated one thing. District Eight hold grudges, they rebel, they weren't a Career District, they weren't all trained killers but they were dangerous.
District Eight was angry, and the Capitol weren't going to be ready for them when that anger boiled over.
And they were hitting their boiling point.
