The next day I tried to call and message Bella . I had no luck getting through to her I really needed her right now. And I could only imagine how she was taking the news of their departure. I was in my treehouse throwing away anything the Cullens had ever gifted me with dry eyes. I already had cleaned my room out. I was calmer than I had thought. After my time with my father last night, I felt much better. It still hurt of course, it hasn't even been twenty four hours. But I would get there, it would just take time.
"Hello?" I speak answer my phone after it ringed. Charlie was calling me.
"Kaylia honey are you with Bella?" He rushed out.
"Um..no. I haven't seen her since her birthday" I state scrunching my eyebrows. Did she leave too? Did she go with them? Was I the only one that was left out?
No. No she wouldn't do that.
"Oh. I can't find her anywhere. She came back home last night. But now she's gone. All her things are still here. If you hear anything. Please please call me" he pleaded.
"I will. I'll go looking too don't worry. I'll call back if I find anything. I say dropping my shit on the floor and rushing out.
I levitated myself up into one of the many tall trees in the woods. It was dark now the sun had set and the moon was at its peek. My red eyes scanned the forest for as far as I could see. I had been out here for hours. First I had went to the Cullens house, finding it complete abandoned. I wasn't worried about seeing one of them, as I knew they had fled. Cowards. After not seeing the Swan girl anywhere. I had given up and searched the woods. Second I looked through the clearing where Bella, Edward, and I always visited. Only to come up empty handed, and crying as I walked away. So here I was hiding in a tree watching the humans search the grounds. Police with guard dogs, and volunteers searching for a missing girl. I used my gifts to jump tree to tree covering ground quicker than they could. Miles and miles of ground being covered. There is a feeling in my body telling me I was getting closer. When I hear leaves crunching from down below I pause wrapping my arms around a branch. Looking down I see a shirtless man bending down.
Bella. Relief rushed through my body. I needed to be close to her.
I watch him pick her up and take off running. I jump down from the tree landing quietly on my feet out of sight. My red eyes fading back to blue, and I take a deep breath of relief.
"Bella where are you!" I call out pretending I had been in the area the whole time. I pick up some dirt and throw it at my clothes to make it look like I've been here on the ground for a while. The man freezes and turns his attention to me.
"Kaylia?" The man asked walking closer. Holding the passed out girl in his arms.
"Sam!" I speak in shock. I hadn't even noticed it was him. His hair had been cut since the last time I seen him when I hung out with Seth.
"What are you doing this far into the woods?" He asked with me coming closer to walk next to him.
"Looking for Bella what else. She is my best friend" I state placing my hands on my waist. He huffs a laugh and we quicken our pace.
"Let's get her to her dad" he tells me. I follow him through the woods. We make small talk the whole way there. He seemed weird. At least weirder than usual. No shirt in this weather. A tribal tattoo on his arm. His hair! I wondered what that was about.
When we make it to the clearing we just happened to come out right by Charlie's house. Sam sure knew these woods like the back of his hand. I keep that locked in the back of my mind.
When Billy Black and Jacob black point at us, Charlie takes off running to us. I've never seen him move that fast in my life. He lifts Bella from Sam's arms and cradles her against him.
"She's alright!" Sam calls out. I hug the male in thanks. He takes me in his warmth making me feel some comfort in a time like this.
"Thank you, Sam. Thank god" Charlie appreciates as he breaths hard. Bella to the house, cradling her. I see Harry Clearwater and Billy send a nod of 'approval Sam's way as he disappears into the woods. Weird.
"Kaylia honey thank you," Charlie says walking with me to his porch, "Now you head home, it's late."
"Can't do buckaroo, Dad knew I left. Bella and I really need each other right now. Can't I stay?" I asked sadly. The male sighs and nods his head. I tried to smile, but the past events wouldn't let me.
"What were you thinking, Baby? Why were you out there?" Charlie tried to ask her when she woke. Carrying her up to her room and laying her on her bed.
"He's...gone" she whispered in sadness. Charlie looks at me in question and disbelief. I nod to confirm what he was thinking. Even I didn't want to believe it.
"I'll take care of this Charlie. Please rest, it's been a long day for everyone" I whispered keeping my voice low so Bella could not hear.
"And who will take care of you?" He worriedly asked.
I get where he was coming from in that moment. Both of us girls have lost people that were very important to us. Both of us were taking the loss in our own ways. But when I finally break down, and I knew that I would. Who would I have to take care of me?....Bella? While she's so distraught? I would hope that she would be there for me too, but in a moment like this, I just wasn't sure.
"Don't worry about me Char. I'm always fine" I answered. He pats my shoulder and leaves us to the room.
"Ella," I whispered crawling into bed next to her. She was in a fetal position in the middle of the bed. I copy her as well. Trying to make it all make sense. I needed this moment of peace with her. Because a storm was coming. We were emerging into blackness, and I was scared that the darkness was going to swallow us whole.
"You're still here " She whispers taking shallow breaths. My eyes well with tears, and I let them fall as I feel myself crumble. Staying silent so she couldn't hear my shallow breathing. I scoot closer and wrap my arms around Bella, spooning her.
"Always."
