"Hi, I wanted to see if you guys were hiring" I mentioned standing against the diner counter that I always eat at."Looking for a job Kaylia" The sweet lady who typically serves me asked. Her name was Cindy, a small pudgy woman with an overly sweet aura.
"Looks like it. I need to get out of the house" I state grabbing a pen when she hands me a form to apply on. I don't need a job, just looking for ways to keep myself occupied.
"Don't bother with that," she speaks taking the pen from me, "your hired, I could use another girl here. Been busier than usual."
"Really? You're not even gonna interview me?" I spoke in disbelief.
"I'm not worried about that. I've known you your whole life kid. Come back this weekend. Say Sunday at nine am. I'll teach you the ins and out, and we'll talk about your schedule" she explained.
"Great" I smiled.
"Kay you're here" Leah smiles opening her front door for me. I haven't seen the girl in a while. I missed her and Seth. It would be nice to see my friends on the other side."In the flesh....wanna go for a walk? And where's Seth?" I asked looking around her body for the lively cheeseball.
"He's at school. He's trying out for football" She shrugged closing the door behind her and following me down the wooden porch.
"Seth wants to play football?" I asked with a small laugh, licking my dry lips as the wind hits my face.
"He didn't want to of course. But dad said he's been getting a bit of a temper lately. It would do him well to have something to take it out on" Leah explained.
"Maybe I should look into sports" I joked.
"I could never see that. Don't you always say you hate cardio" The older girl chuckle shoving my shoulder.
"That...and working too hard. You know what, you're right. I don't see myself doing that either" I answered.
We start walking with no destination in mind. Just two girls getting some fresh air and sun shine. This felt nice. The reservoir had always been so pretty. Sometimes the air just felt fresher on this side.
Her brown eyes were boring into the side of my head. I knew she had tones of questions. Just didn't know if I had the answers.
"Has anyone told you that you look horrible. Not in a mean way I promise. But you look deathly ill" the tanned skinned girl explains.
"You'd be the first to say it out loud," I confirmed, "Just been taking on a lot as of lately."
There's a moment of silence as we walk down a stone path that leads to the beach. The waves could be heard crashing against the shore, and ricocheting off of cliff walls.
"I know about what happened with the Cullens. I know they were your...friends. How are-
"Can we please not talk about them. That's something I don't want to think about anymore" I confessed looking at her. Seeing she looked confused at my words.
"Sorry. I didn't realize it was like that" Leah mumbles.
"Like what?" I confusingly questioned. Leah has know me for a very long time. But how deeply did she understand me?
"Like...like you have feelings deeper than friends. And they somehow broke your heart, you're a lot like me" she said. I remembered what happened between her and Sam. Maybe that's why she was so good at reading me. Those hurt by love can see that damage in others eyes.
She may have understood me better than I do myself.
"You're not wrong. But I don't want to really think about it. That phase of my life is over, time to shift to something new."

AlaskaThere's a groups of vampire hanging around a room. They aren't talking or even moving. Faces of stone as they look off into the distance. The small pixie like woman steps forward a fierce look upon her face.
"No. We promised Edward" Carlisle states. He stood in the middle of the room face to face with Alice.
Esme sits next to him, looking desolated. Emmett is blank from his seat at a nearby table. Rosalie next to him with a look of irritation. And Jasper isolated in a corner of the room. Not one of them feeling anything other than shame.
"But they won't do well without us. I get flashes of her," Alice has a hard time saying Kaylias name, "..but-but they are unclear, some more prominent than others. And Bella-
"Forget her," Rosalie speaks about Bella, "Let's drag Edward home. And go back to Kaylia" she snapped.
"Yes," Emmett speaks up agreeing with his mate, "Why should we promise Edward anything. He forced us to leave our reason for living."
"We can't, and as much as it pains me. You all know why" Carlisle speaks his eyes closing tightly. Quick flashes of his red headed mate haunting his mind.
"He'll come back when he's ready," Esme said, "After the girls have moved on" She tells clutching her hand where her heart would have been beating. Thinking of her mate moving on killed her. It killed all of them.
"Yes. When they are living their life, safe from danger --
Jasper speaks with self contempt, "You mean safe from us."
"Kaylia was never in any danger with us. Just Bella, she's prone to accidents" Emmett said.
"Don't, no blaming. It was on us" Carlisle stops.
"So what? We stay here like sitting ducks. Expecting our mate to move on from us, knowing we all want to be there with her. Knowing that Edward wants to be with Bella and Kaylia just as much. Wait until Edward gets back. And when will that be?" Rosalie sarcastically questions. She was angry.
"Can you see him, Alice?" Emmett asked wishing to be back in Forks. Holding onto a certain blue eyed girl.
They all turn to Alice... a beat. She closes her eyes,
trying to get a look on Edward, "The only decision he's made... is to be alone."
