Quite Time With the Mates

Isadora blurrily rubbed the sleep from her eyes. She hadn't remembered falling asleep. The girl guessed that after Damon turned the movie on last night, they were quick to fall asleep. She tried to get up but found herself locked in a firm grip. Isadora glanced behind her and saw a familiar mop of black hair buried in her neck. Sighing, she looked around for her other mate and found him lying a bit away from the duo. Almost as if his subconscious was still punishing him for his actions all those weeks ago. After spending nearly ten minutes working her way out of bed without waking either mate, Isadora went to the bathroom to get ready for the day. While the water for her shower warmed, she quickly chose an outfit. Isadora wondered what they could do for the day while she took her shower. She wanted to find something all three of them could do that was relaxing for all of them.

As Isadora readied herself for the day, her mind ran over every option. Going out for a meal wasn't an option. Things could get heated when they talked about everything and the last thing they needed was people listening in and watching them. She also turned down the idea of watching a movie, that would allow no time to talk. Swimming wasn't a perfect choice either. Isadora didn't see that option ending well. Then she had a stroke of genius. A picnic! It would be calm enough for them to talk and they could do it somewhere away from people.

It didn't take her long to pack a quick basket of sandwiches, juice, a couple of thermos of blood, and some fruit. Isadora added a couple of sweets she knew her mates loved and went off to find a blanket. By the time she made it back to the kitchen, Klaus and Damon were staring at the basket, trying to figure out what was going on.

Isadora cleared her throat. "I figured some time to reconnect would be good. A picnic."

"Sounds nice," Damon said, his voice sounding a bit rough from not being used recently.

Klaus was quick to agree with the two of them and the trio set off for a small pond located near their home. Isadora knew the hybrid had lingered, deep-seated guilt over everything that had happened. She could feel it almost as if it was her own emotion. It didn't take them long to reach the pond and they worked as a team to lay the blanket down and set the food out.

"I'm sorry," Klaus blurted out in a very unklaus-like manner once they were settled. "I shouldn't have reacted the way I did. There's no excuse for the way that I acted that day. You were just trying to help me."

"Someone you loved very much was torn from you. I understand why you reacted the way you did. Grief can make us do unthinkable things," Isadora said, taking her mates' hands. "I'm just as much at fault as you are. The way I ran off like that. I could have stayed and we could have worked things out that day."

Klaus shook his head. "No, love. I don't feel you were wrong in running. I said pretty hurtful things. Things I can't take back. Even to you, Damon. I was so terrible that day."

"We can't fix the past," Damon said, moving closer to his two mates. "But we can make it better in the future."

Isadora nodded. "An agreement to always talk things out. Even if we need to spend a bit of time in separate rooms, we will always talk things out."

"I will try my best," Klaus promised, dragging Isaodra and Damon closer to him.

For the rest of the afternoon, the trio reconnected. The outside world didn't exist to them for a few precious hours. But soon their food and blood supply was gone, so they packed up the picnic. Damon had the blanket and basket this time while Klaus carried Isadora on his back. Once everything was put away when they got back to the house, the trio retreated to their bedroom. A random movie was put on and the three of them snuggled under the blankets together.

A/N: Sorry it took so long to get out. Had a busy holiday season and a rough start to the new year.
