Cassie was back at the loft, flipping through pages and pages of her grimoire.

"You're the key... to saving Beacon Hills..."

Despite flipping through her grimoire for hours and more than at least ten times, she couldn't find anything. Nothing that could help her figure out how exactly to save her beloved town.

She just finally gave up and tossed her grimoire onto the ground. She fell backwards into her bed, grasping at her hair in frustration.

Katherine sighed when she saw her daughter like this. She walked past the grimoire, feeling guilty that she didn't help.

"Hey, be careful with that. It's been a family heirloom since the 1800s," Katherine said sternly, pulling Cassie to her feet.

Cassie sighed. "1800s. That's why I couldn't find anything."

She went towards the book and picked it up, setting it onto the coffee table. She sat down on the couch, her leg starting to bounce up and down rapidly out of anxiety.

Katherine went to her and started rubbing her back comfortingly.

"Hey, it'll be alright. Why don't you just help your friends with the Anuk... something. Whatever."

"I can't. If the creature is supposedly this powerful, I don't think my powers would work on it," Cassie replied, looking up at her mother.

Katherine chuckled softly. "You underestimate yourself too much, flower."

Cassie sighed again. "Mom, what do I do? There's nothing and no one who can help me."

"There's Bianca," she suggested.

"I thought she didn't have a phone? She doesn't understand it or whatever. Besides, even if she did, I wouldn't call her here. Beacon Hills is practically an unfixable mess right now."

She paused when she saw the look on Katherine's face. She furrowed her brows slightly, knowing that look a little too well when it came to her mother.

"You know something," she stated. "What do you know? What are you not telling me?"

She could see the panic in her eyes start to slowly appear.

"N-nothing! I'm just... guilty that I can't help you with this."

"Can't or won't?" Cassie accused, standing up which made Katherine back away a step. "Mom, we agreed no more secrets. What aren't you telling me?"

"It's nothing that involves you. I-I don't even know if it's true."

"Mom, if it didn't involve me, you wouldn't keep it from me. Now tell me. If I can do something, anything, to help, please just... just tell me."

Katherine sighed, seeing Cassie's pleading but stern expression. She looked away, hesitating for a moment, before continuing.

"There's this family legend," she began. "You know how Cynthia was the creator of dark magic, right? That that's the reason why our bloodline is so special?"

Cassie nodded. "Yes... what about it?"

She hesitated even more, trying to put her thoughts into words. "The other witches. They say way back before she got executed that she put a curse on her village by using power from a very big power source."

"The nemeton."

Katherine nodded. "Yes, exactly. The nemeton," she replied. "They say she was so determined to get revenge on her village and all the other villages that participated in the executions that she traveled across the country in the woods alone..." she paused, hesitating again.
