Chapter 22

Alexander's POV

After i left Lani's room, i headed to the kitchen knowing Cole is probably looking for a snack. I was proven right when i found him in the kitchen balancing a tray of snacks.

He had popcorn, oreos, ice cream, chocolate and he was trying to grab a bowl of strawberries. I helped him with the bowl before he could drop it.

"Xan, i was looking for you everywhere. "He said with his mouth full of chips. "Yeah, i bet."i said sarcastically. We went to the living room where Alan and Shaun were.

Shaun smirked when he saw me."Where've you been?" Shaun asked. Alan glanced over at me before focusing on the TV again. He was watching some horror movie.

"I was hanging out with Lani." I said sitting down and handing Cole his strawberries after taking one. He glared at me like I'd insulted him.

"So no more awkwardness. I mean,  seeing you two act like friends was kinda painful. " Shaun said taking a bite out of a muffin. That's when i noticed the gift basket full of muffins.

I gave him a weird look? "Celine brought them for her little Ally ."Shaun said in a girly voice. "And you feel safe eating them?" I asked chuckling. "She'll never hurt Al." Shaun said with a shrug.

"Good point, hand me one."i said. He threw one at me and i caught it. "I'm so proud of you dude,  you're becoming a man." Shaun said. "Well technically we're still taking things slow." I said smiling at the thought.

"You're killing me Xan."he said, i shrugged. "Ok well until then, I'm gonna show you the way of life." He said sitting next to me and throwing his arm around my shoulder.

"I'm gonna pass. I need this girl to trust me and I'm not sure sleeping with anything in a skirt is the way."i said shrugging his arm off.

"What the hell did she do to you?"he asked. I told them what happened, leaving certain parts for Lani and i.
"I don't know if i prefer you single or locked down." Shaun muttered.

"Well if she's the key, then i wanna be locked down." I said. "At least you're getting some action. "Shaun sighed. I chuckled, choosing not to respond to that.

"Are we all going to ignore the fact that he was knocked out by a girl? " Alan asked. "She had a gun." I defended. "Oh wow. When i guy knocks a girl out with a gun it's harrassment but when a girl does it, it's cute?"he asked.

"I'm sure it's for protection."i said. "Yeah right and santa can fit down chimneys even though he's like 600 pounds."He scoffed. "No he's not." Cole said sadly.

"Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you carry knives around everywhere." I said. "You've been armed since i met you. " Shaun said.

"I haven't knocked out any girl though." He shrugged. "Wait, since Xander met his mate early,  does it mean Alan will too?" Cole asked. Alan chuckled darkly. "For her sake, i hope i don't. " he stated.

"If you don't want her then can i make a move?" Shaun asked. Alan looked at him with no emotion before taking out his phone dismissing himself from the conversation.

"What about you Cole. Ready to meet the one?"i asked. "I've waited this long."he said with a shrug.

"Shaun?" I asked. "Hell no!"he said. "I'm with Alan on this one. We can't be tied down. Way too many options." He said. "I never said that." Alan said not looking away from his phone.

"Where are all those muffins from? "Kelly asked coming downstairs with Lani behind her. "A special someone. "Shaun responded mockingly.  Alan rolled his eyes.

Kelly grabbed one and was about to take a bite. "Kelly don't! " Shaun exclaimed taking the muffin quickly. Kelly raised her eyebrow. "They're blueberry muffins. "He explained.

"Oh thanks." Kelly said gratefully. "Were you just gonna watch me eat it?" Kelly asked glaring at me. "You know i wouldn't. " i said completely seriously even though i knew she was joking. I noticed Lani was sat next to Cole as he handed her strawberry covered in chocolate.

"What? You guys never want to try what i eat." He said. "Dude knows his stuff." Lani said in a muffled voice. Fucking cute.

"Catch." Cole said tossing Kelly a packet of oreos. "Thanks." She said as she caught it. "Lani,you ready?"she asked. Lani nodded. "Where are you two going?" I asked.

"Out."Lani responded. "Yeah i got that part." I said rolling my eyes. "So cute, their first fight." Shaun said. It was Lani's turn to roll her eyes. "Let's go." Kelly said and then they both just walked out without any explanation.

"Get rid of those muffins." Cole stated seriously. Shaun nodded. Cole eats a lot of things but not blueberries. He used to love them, but when we were younger he absentmindedly made Kelly taste something containing blueberry.

~~flashback ~~

"Are you boys okay here? I'm going to take some of the pies downstairs. "Bertha said. We nodded. We were seven at the time. She took the pies and left.

"Kelly you've got to try this pie Bertha made." Cole said as Kelly walked in. "I'm not really hungry. " Kelly said. "Just try it." Cole pleaded. "Alright. " Kelly caved,  taking the fork and tasting a piece of the pie.

She made a weird face. Suddenly she started coughing. "I can't breathe. " she  struggled to say. She fell down clutching her throat. "Kelly?" Cole called worriedly getting down next to her.

"Mum!" Shaun screamed running off to find Bertha. I went to get her some water with my hands shaking. I guess Alan went to get her parents because they were there in seconds.

"Kelly. What happened? " Uncle Dean asked picking her up. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I didn't know." Cole kept apologizing with tears running down his face. "She had some of the blueberry pie." Alan responded.

"Oh no." Aunt Debbie gasped. Dad ran in with Bertha and Shaun. "Let's get her to the pack doctor,  now!" Uncle Dean said rushing out with Kelly still in his arms.

Aunt Debbie ran after them. Even i was on the verge of tears as Kelly's colour seemed to change. "I didn't mean to. I'm sorry" Cole said crying. "Of course you didn't and your sister is going to be fine. Okay? Let's go and meet mummy and daddy there." Dad said picking Cole up.

"I'm coming too ,alpha. It's my fault. " Bertha said. "It's no ones fault,  let's go now." Dad said. We rushed down as pack members looked at us worriedly.  After all, that is their future Gamma.

When we all got into the car, Dad sped off to the pack doctor. Uncle Dean and Aunt Debbie were already there but i don't think they had a car.

Cole wouldn't stop crying and Alan wasn't speaking. He just watched like he couldn't look away. Dad had Cole in his arms. He wrapped his legs around dad's waist and cried into his shoulder.

I tried to comfort Shaun as he cried because I felt useless. I felt hopeless. I'm pretty sure we all did and I never want to feel that way again.
~~present day ~~

She almost died. He hasn't eaten anything with blueberry since. Shaun understands because he was there as well. We all would have done same but Kelly didn't want us to. Cole refused to listen, obviously.

"I'm gonna give it to mum to give it to some kids." Shaun said grabbing the basket and walking out. Cole nodded without a glance at him. He just looked at the snacks he had. "You okay?" Alan asked.

"Yeah" Cole muttered. "She didn't eat it.  Back then, we didn't know but now we do."i said. "Nothing's going to happen to her" Alan added. "Yeah probably." Cole said with his ideal smile back on his face.
