Chapter 40

Alexander's POV

"What's wrong now?" I asked Alan as he and I headed upstairs. "I don't know. Cole said Bertha has been trying to call Shaun but he isn't picking up. When Cole tried to speak to him, he was acting weird and kicked him out. "Alan explained.

"He seems much more dramatic this year." Alan added. "So kinda like you." I stated. Alan glared. We had gotten to our floor when Nevel also walked up. "Hi." He greeted shyly. Alan stepped back.

"Are you scared of kids?" I asked chuckling. "No. They're just so small and weird. "Alan defended making me laugh harder. "Is there something you need Nevel?" I asked bringing my attention back to him.

He shrugged. "I followed you guys."he stated. "Okay well right now I need to speak to my friend so follow this one around. "I said gesturing to Alan who looked shocked.

"I don't want it."he murmured. I rolled my eyes. "You two are going to get along so well." I chuckled. Alan looked at me in shock as I turned to walk to  Shaun's room. I saw him turn around and leave with Nevel following him.

I knocked on Shaun's door. No response. I tried again. "Go away, Xander. " he said. "I don't want to use the alpha command on you. Open up and talk to me." I stated leaning against the wall.

"I know you won't. "He muttered. "I kinda getting worried here, Shaun. Open the door. "I said firmly. I heard some shuffling. The lock clicked and he opened the door.

"Have you been crying? "I asked as I took in my friend's appearance. The Shaun who could get any girl without even trying was looking like a reck.

He opened the door wider. I stepped in and he locked it  behind me. He slid down against the wall. "What's going on?" I asked him confused. "I fucked up."he stated running his hand through his hair.

"What did you do?" I asked, sitting next to him on the ground. I didn't like seeing any of my friends this upset. He didn't respond. I stayed beside him quietly and we sat there for a while.

"Kelly's my mate."he suddenly stated.

Well I was not expecting that. 'It was kinda obvious. 'Dante stated. 'Can you just stay quiet. ' I retorted. "Are you sure?" I asked not really knowing what to say. "Her scent is all over Cole and it's driving me nuts. "He said.

"They're twins. They have similar scents. "I responded. "It's either Kelly or I'm gay."he said sniffing. "Would that be better?" I asked. "Xan."he warned. "Sorry...how are you going to tell her? "I asked.

"I don't know. She's going to reject me and Cole's gonna hate me. " he said staring at nothing. "Cole could never hate you...and to know what Kelly feels,  you're going to have to tell her. " I said.

"She'll hate me Xan."he whispered. "You don't know that. The people you think will hate you are worried about you. So is Bertha, don't push them away." I said getting up.

I offered a hand and he took it, getting up as well. "I'm sure everything will be fine." I said patting his back before walking out. Shaun and Kelly. Really? Is the moon goddess playing games with our lives.

'So far, I'm liking it. 'Dante said. 'You're really starting to piss me off.' I responded. 'Well I didn't exactly ask to be stuck with you. 'He muttered. I rolled my eyes.

I don't feel comfortable keeping this from Kelly or Cole but Shaun has to be the one to say it. I hope Kelly thinks this through. I sighed and headed back down.

To my surprise, Alan was sitting with Nevel. They were watching the grinch. Alan looked like he could murder so i figured I should free him. "You better have handled it." He growled when he saw me. I nodded.

He got up and started walking away. This place is so huge, i don't know where he was even going. "Where are you going?" Nevel asked. "Wherever you're not. " Alan responded.

"He's funny. "Nevel giggled. "Really, because he reminds me of the grinch." I responded. "Yeah but the grinch was a nice person deep down. "Nevel stated.

"You're too innocent for this world." I sighed. "I know." He responded with a shrug. Nevel seemed focused on what he was watching so I went in the direction Alan left to. It was a beautifully decorated dining room with so much pancakes syrup and fruits.

Is Cole still in his room. Since when has there been food but no Cole. "Where are your dad and uncle?" I asked Lani.
"Probably busy."she responded. "Nevel?" She asked.

"Living room. "I responded. She politely called an omega to take Nevel's breakfast to him. Cole came in soon after. "Where were you?" I asked. "Leaving a gift for Shaun infront of his door. I think he's mad at me or something. "Cole said sitting down.

"I'm sure he isn't. It's just one of his moods. " I said hoping Cole wouldn't be able to tell that I was lying. "Well will he be down soon? "Kelly asked. I nodded.

Shaun eventually joined us. "Thanks."he whispered to Cole as he sat down next to him. Cole smiled and they did the handshake. We served ourselves  and started eating.

I noticed even though Shaun was trying to act natural, he kept avoiding Kelly's eyes. 'You okay?" I asked through the mindlink.

"WTF? How are you in my head" he asked.'You have your wolf now. We can mindlink.' I responded. 'So...Kelly?'I asked.

'Well she's definitely my mate, but she definitely doesn't deserve this.' He responded sadly as he glanced at Kelly who was talking to Lani.

"You wanna go out today and try to find your mate?" Cole suddenly asked. "No. I'm good. "Shaun responded. "But if you do want to go out we can." Lani said. "I'm fine, really. "He responded with a smile which didn't reach his eyes.

For Shaun's sake I really hope Kelly's wolf doesn't start showing herself early.
