Chapter 31

Leilani's POV

Days have passed and today is the day and by the day, I mean Alexander's birthday. I know we're mates and I believe we are but the little pessimist in me keeps telling me that Alex and I were kidding ourselves these past few days.

It's a Friday so we have to go to school, well technically I don't see why we have to but they insisted. Cole of course refused to leave Alex and went on strike by clinging onto Alex like a Koala bear last night.

Alex was probably sleeping in because I didn't see him before we left. I'm not sure i wanted to see him because it could either be good news or bad news.

To be honest, I don't know how I'm going to tell my father about this. He would never force me to take over and rule at 18 but still, introducing Alex as my mate and King seems too real.

Since Cole was staying with Alex, that left Alan, Shaun, Kelly and i to get to school. Kelly decided to go with Alan because Shaun insisted on taking me.

Apparently, he's the most important person in Alex's life and we're about to share that title so we need to get to know each other better.

We were more than happy to get to school because the pack house was not exactly the most calm place to be. Bertha was ordering omegas up and down and fussing about the food for tonight.

It's normal for every wolf to have a huge party at 18 but this is different. This is their future alpha, mistakes will not be tolerated.

Alpha Calvin almost banished someone for slacking off on the most important day of his life. Fortunately, Dean was quick to take over.

Debbie is dealing with pack stuff since neither her mate or friend are in the mood to do so.

Alan and Kelly took the lead because a certain someone stopped to terrorize Wyatt. If I were the boy I would have transferred packs.

On our way Shaun decided we play last girl standing since it would be easier to mention the girls he hadn't slept with than who he had been with.

"Have you ever thought about when those girls meet their mates?"i asked him.

"I don't do mated chicks, virgins or friends. Those girls know I'm not looking for a relationship."he responded with a shrug, still focused on the road.

"What about your mate? Won't you be turning 18 soon?" I asked. "Yeah, this Sunday. "He responded. "Why am i now hearing of this?" I asked shocked that his birthday is a day after today.

"Because the person i was born to isn't here to celebrate my birthday."he shrugged. I felt bad that's how Nevel feels sometimes. Sophia and I always distract him.

I didn't know how to comfort Shaun though, it's only Alex and the twins who know about Nevel. I'm not lying to my friends, I'm just keeping a tiny fragment of the truth to myself.

Ok fine maybe I'm lying to them but only to protect my little brother. "Actually,  your birthday doesn't necessarily have to be spent with your biological family. "I stated.

"It kinda does." He stated. "No it doesn't. Who is Bertha to you?" I asked. "My mother. "He said. "She might not be your biological mother but doesn't stop her from loving you like her own child." I said.

"You're right, but it's just harder than you think." He sighed. "I guess don't really know what it's like because as difficult as it was to cope with my mum's death, I always had my dad." I said with a sad smile.

"My dad was never in the picture. It was just me, my mum and brother. "He said smiling a little. He lost his mum and brother? That must have been difficult.
