The following evening, Hallie found herself on her way to detention to spend some well needed 1 on 1 time with her all time favourite Professor. The older woman had become a person that Hallie could trust wholeheartedly with her life. And with the darkness seemingly vanquishing everything within its capacity, Hallie valued that support at this time more than ever.
Hallie entered the classroom, finding McGonagall perched at her desk watching the door expectantly - obviously having awaited the girl's arrival.
"Good evening Miss Brennan," McGonagall spoke curtly, gesturing for the girl to take a seat. Hallie clamorously sat herself down in the chair, immediately picking up a biscuit from the tray excitedly.
"Miss Brennan," McGongall spoke in amusement, watching as the girl took a large bite out of the biscuit.
"Please Minnie, call me Hallie."
"Miss Brennan," the woman repeated, before snatching the half eaten biscuit out of the girl's hand and placing it back onto the plate. "You are here because of a semi-successful human transfiguration, which although I found moderately impressive, was also very against our school rules. Is that clear?"
Hallie nodded her head, still eyeing the half biscuit on the plate. "Now have you got any questions before we begin the detention?"
The girl looked up at Professor McGonagall, who was looking towards her questionably. "Yeah actually," the girl began, looking back down to the plate once more. "Can I finish my biscuit please?"
The woman sighed, evidently having no energy to try to argue with the girl. "If you must."
"Thanks, you're a darling," Hallie smiled, placing the biscuit back up against her lips.
McGonagall watched the teenager with a small smile. "How have you been, Miss Brennan? How is studying for your NEWTs going?""
"I've been great actually Minnie, thanks for asking," Hallie spoke appreciatively, wiping the excess crumbs from her lips. "Lily has been helping me study potions for NEWTs and James and I have been working on Transfiguration together. Last night me and Sirius started doing some astronomy work as well."
"Well I'm very pleased you are keeping up with your studies Miss Brennan," McGonagall added, pouring the girl a tea into a teacup. "You said you were studying astronomy with Mr Black?"
Hallie looked up at the woman, who had raised her eyebrows with uncertainty towards the blonde. 'Surely McGonagall didn't know that they had been snogging more than studying, right?'
"Yes, that's right Professor."
"I see," the woman replied, placing her teacup delicately to the pink of her lips. Hallie found herself doing the same, blowing the tea delicately. "I was inquired to ask you a question about you and Mr Black actually Miss Brennan. As to whether you two are...you know..."
"A thing?"
"If that's what teenagers today call it, then yes Miss Brennan," McGonagall added, winking subtly towards the girl. "A thing."
Hallie immediately felt a heated blush make its way to her cheeks. "Yes Minnie, we're together."
McGonagall smiled, but refrained from speaking for the moment, as she raised her cup to her lips once more. She had always thought they would have made a gorgeous couple. "Well I'm very happy and very proud of you Miss Brennan," McGonagall beamed, placing the cup gracefully back against the saucer. "I do hope he's treating you well."
"He is," Hallie replied, nodding her head with certainty.
"Good. And say thank you to Mr Black on my behalf," McGonagall added, causing Hallie to furrow her eyebrows in confusion. "I told Pomona and Poppy it would be before March."
