Just a little idea I had.

--

1983

Dhani walked around the house, humming his kazoo happily and not caring that it was six in the morning.

George was woken up by this noise, but didn't say anything. He didn't want to discourage music, especially when it sounded good.

Eventually Olivia got up and went over to the 5-year-old and spoke gently, "Dhani, sweetheart, that is a lovely song, but it's quite early."

"Oh, sorry, Mum. I can stop." Was the reply.

"Thank you, Dhani. I do really like your music, though." She didn't want to upset the boy.

"I understand," Dhani grinned and hugged his mum.

Olivia smiled and went back to the bedroom, where George was already back asleep. She found it a bit amusing. But he was very tired.

An hour later, the family of three sat down at the table. They were eating toast and yogurt. The parents drank tea. Almost immediately, George was faced with questions.

"Dad, why do you garden?"

"Because it's nice to do and it's good for the earth." George wondered a little where such a question came from.

"And why don't we have a farm?" Dhani was curious, "like Paul and Linda?"

That was a bigger inquiry. The guitarist wasn't sure how to answer. Finally, he came up with one.

"I guess because we don't need one. We didn't buy one, so we don't have it. Paul already bought a farm. He just got some animals to go with it."

That seemed to make enough sense to the little boy. He nodded. Though, still wished they had some animals to take care of.

Being a vegetarian, Dhani adored animals more than most kids his age. He understood the concept of not eating meat.

"I guess we have a zoo of instruments instead!" Dhani suddenly said, beaming.

George and Olivia laughed. "I suppose you're right, darling." She added.

"Got me escaping from this zoo.. Baby, I'm in love with you.." George sang softly, and Olivia gave him a kiss.

Dhani listened intently to his dad singing. It was nothing special, because there was music in the house all the time, but still, the boy loved it.

--

The sun was shining through windows and it was prompting inspiration. Dhani got a ukulele and a tambourine, going outside with them both. George noticed and joined him.

"What are you up to?" George was pretty sure he knew the answer.

"Sitting outside. I wanna play music out here, so I got your ukulele for you!"

The man nodded. He grinned and sat next to his son. "Sure, we can do that."

Dhani felt excited and handed the four-stringed instrument to George, and then ran back inside. "I forgot my kazoo!" He explained.

The 5-year-old wandered all over the house, having a hard time finding said thing. Olivia was reading a book and looked up when he was looking under chairs.

"What are you looking for, Dhani?"

"My kazoo! I was playing it earlier.." The boy frowned.

"Did you try looking in the bedrooms?" His mother wondered.

"Yes. It was not there.. Or here." Dhani was getting frustrated.

Dhani sat down on one of the chairs to think, but he felt something hard behind him. When he stuck his hand into his pocket, there it was. "Look, Mum!"

"Oh, you found it! Good job." Olivia smiled as she watched him run back outside.

"I found it, Dad!" Dhani proudly told George.

"Nice one. What song do you want to play?" George asked.

"Hmm... Bad Leroy Brown!" Dhani had more unusual tastes in music, having listened to older songs.

George thought about the lyrics and chords for a moment before he started to strum 'Bad, Bad Leroy Brown'.

He started to sing and Dhani began to play his kazoo, dancing while he did so.

Olivia heard the tune from inside and decided to go out too, in the beautiful garden.

--

After that ended, she applauded and listened to George play another song. Dhani picked up the tambourine and started hitting that in time.

The three of them were in the garden for a while, and eventually, Dhani was on George's lap, staring at the trees that were shading their faces.

The quiet was enjoyable, actually, very peaceful. But after a little while, George got curious.

"Dhani, are you all right?"

"Yes, Dad. I'm just.." He yawned, "thinking. I like this."

"I do too," George smiled at the sleepy feeling. "I'm always here for you, y'know."

"I know." Dhani agreed. "Mum is too."

"I absolutely am, dear." Olivia spoke gently.

The little boy curled up and closed his eyes. He felt the warmth of both the sun and his father.

George laughed very quietly. He realised he was stuck like this, with Dhani on his lap, but that wasn't the worst thing.

Dhani was leaning against George's chest, breathing softly. He started to fuss after a minute, but settled as George sang some more.

"Here comes the sun.. Here comes the sun, and I say.. It's all right." He sang just a bit more, until there was no more unhappy thoughts coming from the boy who was dreaming.
