Dear Diary,

We scrambled to prepare for war in time. It seems like this is all we do. We left Michael sleeping on the senate floor while the messengers ran off to tell everyone to get to high ground. Legionnaires got ready to pack the barracks and suit for battle. Centurions began setting up the levees under Jason's guidance. Romans are good at building fast and under pressure, so it didn't take long for them to push stone barricades against the river and shape it further away from the camp.

"How'd you figure out it was the Goblet of Youth?" I asked.

"I remembered reading about it," Suki told me. She pulled on a chestplate and tightened my straps for me. "What other goblet could it be?" I handed her a pair of boots and she passed me my sword. "I feel like this isn't the end-all, be-all though."

My chest tightened. "You think that too?" She looked at me and nodded. "There's no way this is. It's too sudden. We heard nothing about it, and it's been too quiet."

"Agreed," Suki said, "which is why I think we need to stall."

"Stall?" I met her eyes. "We need... You want to interrogate the goddess."

"But she won't know it's an interrogation," Suki said. "I need you to do the talking, and Jason needs to be there, since he has some power over storms. Even if it feels like it's going nowhere, just keep going. She'll let something slip; I'm sure of it."

"What will you do?" I asked.

"Um... I'm gonna put the storm to sleep."

I nodded. "Okay."

She hesitated. "You're not arguing with me?"

"No," I said. "I know you can do it." She smiled softly and clipped a dagger onto her belt. "I'll tell Jason the plan."

"I'll tell Sebastian that he has to keep his gob shut."

We split apart, and I found Jason placing the last levee in place, controlling the winds to make it a little easier. He saw me and ran forward, his hair messy and face red from working so hard. "Reyna? Any news?"

"Yes," I said. "I'll be interrogating the goddess, and Suki's gonna try to put her to sleep. I need your help. All we have to do is keep her-" Thunder clapped right in my ear and the rain let loose. I saw a yellow explosion up the hill, towards the city, and knew Terminus was cursing horribly. I had to yell to be heard over the wind; "We just have to keep the goddess talking! We know this isn't the end!"

"Okay!" Jason shouted. Lightning struck the top of the principia, hitting a golden statue of the god Mars. The statue charged and crackled with lightning before shooting a lightning bolt at the sky. Even in statue form, he'd defend us. "Wear a helmet! Get ready for hail!"

"Hail? Again?"

"I can sense it!" He told me, pointing at the sky. He ran to command the others to put their helmets on as well. I pulled mine from my hip and brushed my hair from my forehead before putting it on. Rain hammered against it, making it ring around my skull, which wasn't a very pleasant feeling.

"Yo!" Sebastian ran in front of me on my way up the hill. "Suki told me you're interrogating the storm goddess?"

"More or less."
