well I didnt exactly ask to get tazed, but one must be prepared for all scenarios. I wasnt, so I got my shit rocked and then got hit on the back of the head. Jason and I were just trying to plan how not to get murked by dominic. lo and behold, this happens.
Jason didnt go down so easily. while I was spasming near the fire, close to burning all of my hair off, Jason actually put up a fight, but some sort of collar got around his neck and he went down like a plank of wood. suki nearly got dominic to sleep, but he got her hands bound before she could do much, then punched her square in the face. by the time I lost consciousness, he had managed to silently bind reyna. suki putting her to sleep did more harm than good for once.
when I woke up next, I was in a metal cart of some sort. I groaned and sat up, finding that I was chained to it. behind me trailed two more carts; one with Suki and Jason lumped in together, also awake and also chained, with Reyna at the very back, also chained, and with a very angry expression.
Suki sighed in relief and stared at me. "Are you okay?"
I opened my mouth and my jaw cracked, which was painful, but not the end of the world. "I'm... fine." Her noses was a big swollen knob in the middle of her face. "What the hell even-"
"Oh, you're up!"
I turned to face forward. Dominic was pulling us along with an old metal handle connected to a long chain to keep us at a distance. he struggled against the hills, but I guess he's stronger than he looks, because he managed alright despite being shorter than all of us and way skinnier.
"Hey!" I lunged, but my chain yanked me back by the wrist. I knew if I used brute force, I'd just snap my joint or tear it apart altogether. "What are you doing with us?"
"I have the perfect number!" I realized we were still in Fortuna, Arizona, which made me feel even worse. Nobody wants to be in a ghost town. "So, tell me, you're... what, how old? Seventeen?"
"Eighteen," I grimaced.
"So, you can drive?"
I frowned. "I mean, yeah, but-"
"YAY!" He got over the hill, which led to a cliffside that looked bleak and gray and sad. "Oh, this is wonderful! I've been scouting, but mortals really don't hold up well for this. They die too easily."
I heard Suki's breath hitch. I turned around, and saw her whole face white with fear. Jason had to hold her and whisper soothing words. Reyna watched like the scene was impossible to comprehend, but I really didnt have the time to focus on her weird pining.
I turned forward. Dominic yanked a stone out of the rubble, and I watched a door magically opened, revealing a candle-lit tunnel into the earth. my chest began to throb as dominic dragged us into it. Once the carts were fully in, he put the stone in a tube of some sort, like you might see at a bank. it sucked up, and I assume it went to the former place it was, because the hole behind us closed up.
I guess my claustrophobia isnt easily hidden. It was fine my first trip to the labyrinth. but never afterwards. thats why I had to expand the basement and add an extra door, just so I didn't have to think about being in such a small space. its not about being in a small space; its about being trapped. feeling like there's just nowhere to go. if I have a door, like the basement, then no problem!
