suki's letter back to me wasnt very helpful. I read it uncomfortably while waiting for reyna to get out of the bathroom.

On way from Shreveport, we have to buy this homeless man some Cajun food for helping us out. We're due for New Orleans in approximately ten hours if the Greyhound has no problems. Wishing well, I love you.

so I really aint feel much better after that. when reyna came out of the bathroom, I showed her the note and she frowned. "They should just head straight east and go to San Antonio, and we'll take care of whatever might be in New Orleans."

"That's what I was thinking," I said, "but if they're only ten hours away, maybe we should just get the gang back together."

"Well, when was that written?" Reyna questioned. "Was it delivered by aura or by eagle?"

"Aura."

"So, it got here in... probably about an hour?" she figured. "Maybe less?"

I nodded and stared at the note. "So, more like nine hours away."

"Then we'll just wait here," Reyna decided. "No use sending them all the way to San Antonio when they're already almost here." She sat down at the table and sifted through the menu. "What are you getting?"

"Gator, obviously." Reyna wrinkled her nose. "Hey man, when in Rome..."

"I'll stick with the catfish."

I looked out the window of the busy street. I'd never been in new orleans before. I hadnt been anywhere other than california for most of my life, really. And frankly, I loved it down there. It was warm, though a bit humid, but there was music on every corner and everyone was super nice so far. nowhere near as racist as nashville. plus, the general atmosphere was just pleasant, and I liked the history and the architecture. and women are hotter in new orleans, too. not so much the guys.

Reyna stirred her tea uncomfortably. "Where do we sleep tonight?"

well that was a great question. I tapped my hands and thought about it. "Well, maybe we don't have to figure that out yet. I mean, if we're looking at nine hours or so for Jason and Suki, that means they'll get here around nine. We can figure it out with them."

She frowned. "And a backup plan?"

"I dunno, cheap motel."

"With what money?"

"Reyna, we're in a densely populated area with poor police presence and I'm literally a legacy of the god of thieves. I'm telling you, you can stop worrying about money around me."

The waitress came back and popped her bubble gum. she had one of them faces thats like "I hate my job so I'm gonna make your day pretty sucky too", plus a little bit of homicidal malice. "Are you ready yet?"

She was kinda hot though. y'know, one of those freakishly tall alt girls. "Yeah, I'm gonna do the grilled gator with dirty rice and hushpuppies."

She jotted it down and glanced at Reyna. "And you?"

Reyna looked at the menu. "The Louie special."
