Dear Diary,
Jason led us to a cute little wooden house at the end of a long dirt driveway. Closer to the house, I saw a few garden beds made out of kiddie pools, which was weird, and the porch had two old rocking chairs and a bug zapper. There were also a few wood chimes, and the curtains were drawn, but I could see blue light coming out of one window.
I looked at Jason. "How old are these girls?"
Jason thought deeply. "Early-twenties."
Sebastian scoffed and gestured to the place. "Early-twenties? This is where grandmas live!"
Jason shrugged. "I'd be careful, considering these guys are gonna help us out." He walked up the front steps. "Be very calm. This is our only hope." He turned to the door and hesitated. "That means you, Sebastian."
"Hey!"
Jason knocked on the door. It was painted bright teal. I heard a quiet, irritated discussion, then a few clicking noises, and the door opened to reveal a young woman with her black hair slicked back. She wore a University of Arkansas sweatshirt and grey sweats, and was shorter than all of us. She had browner skin, though not as dark as Sebastian, and held more of a cool tone than I do. Her brown eyes stared at us inquisitively.
The woman furrowed her eyebrows a bit before her eyes lit up with recognition. "Jason? Oh my gods! Do you remember me?" She asked excitedly, opening her arms for a hug. "Maia! Jason's here!"
Jason awkwardly hugged the girl, a small smile on his face, and inside, I finally recognized a song playing- something something Santeria- and another girl spoke, "Uh, I'm in the middle of a game."
Sebastian began rocking. "I don't practice Santeria, I ain't got no crystal ball!"
"Shut up," I whispered.
Jason cleared his throat and pulled away. "Dani, this is Reyna, Sebastian, and Suki."
Dani ignored us as she turned her head inside, and she scrunched her face up like she smelt something bad. "Girl, don't nobody care about that game." She rolled her eyes and turned bck to us. "Y'all can come in. Excuse her." She stepped aside.
I glanced at Suki awkwardly. Neither of us are too keen on entering the homes of strangers. But Dani seemed nice, and Jason trusted her, so the four of us awkwardly walked inside. On the couch, the other girl sat with a red controller, wearing a Minecraft shirt that was certainly not for adults. She glanced at the four of us awkwardly, her purple bangs chopped unevenly. "Shit- Uh-" The game of Mariokart ended, and she put the controller down. She stammered like she didn't know we'd be coming in. "Hi..."
Jason waved. "Hi. Uh, I'm Jason. These are my friends..." Sebastian kept dancing to the song like nothing was amiss. "We need some help."
Dani waved her hand dismissively. "She remembers you. I can't believe you've gotten so big. Maia, you remember how small he was?" She frowned. "Wait, what do you need help with?"
Jason scratched his head. "Well, uh, maybe just some rest, and uh... transportation? Possibly?"
Maia stared at Jason like he'd just uttered the unspeakable words. "Did you seriously just come to my house to ask for a ride?"
