Hello again.
"What are you doing?" Reyna asked Sebastian, staring at him in shock.
He had his shirt off and was chipping at the basement wall with a pickaxe. "See, my mom and Felix never come down here. Idea; just do the work when they aren't home to hear it!"
Reyna rolled her eyes. "I told you this would never-" I sat down at the computer, and quickly booted up Garageband. "Suki, what are you doing?"
"I need to practice," I answered. Sebastian went back to chipping, so I grabbed some headphones and plugged them into the computer. I turned the volume all the way up to tune him out, and quickly got to work. An easy way for me to practice actually using the app was just be recreating songs I already know. I mostly do video game songs, since those are really fun. I've almost completely finished the main Zelda tune.
I just focused on the computer the entire time. I was dimly aware of Reyna arguing with Sebastian, but the screaming quickly stopped when she went upstairs. Felix came down after a coming home, so Sebastian covered the chipped wall with a poster. Felix tried to grab my attention, but I pretended I couldn't hear him until he left me alone. Sebastian began utilizing his drum set to the best of his abilities until he hit his face with a drumstick, then quit and went upstairs. Then Lisa came downstairs and sat next to me for a whole thirty minutes, which was when I realized she wasn't going to leave me alone.
I pulled one headphone in front of my ear so I could hear her better, and turned down the volume, so in the other one, my music was just quiet. "I don't want to talk about it."
"Okay," she said gently, nodding. "Not today. But I can't let you go on with this indefinitely."
"Okay." I added a few more sound bits, but she still didn't leave. "I'll have dinner later."
"It's almost midnight." I frowned, and finally glanced at the clock in the corner of the screen. "You've been on the computer all day, and your eyes are bloodshot." I finally looked at her, but moving my eyes made them sting. "You haven't showered, and you had a long day."
"I'll be fine. I'm not a child."
"Yes, you are." I looked away. "You might be an older child, but you're still a child. You're still my responsibi-"
"Am I?" I never really use that tone with her, so she quickly lurched back and stared at me. "The only reason you even take care of me is because my dad asked you to. He's dead now. You know what that means, right?"
"It means I adopt yo-"
"No. It means I go in the foster care system, because none of this is even legal." She stammered as I stood up. "I'm not blind." I threw the headphones down. They shattered. No more headphones. I didn't say anything else to her as I went upstairs, my leg feeling more and more part of me than ever before. And I went all the way to my room, where Sebastian was fast asleep in his bunk. I slammed the door and got in my own bed, quickly pulling the covers over me. But the mattress began swallowing me and the blankets began to entomb me, so I just got back on the floor.
I woke up before everyone else, and went back downstairs. I began coding random tunes of my own, since that seemed a little bit more fun and gave me more freedom. Free from the burden of having to conform with a pre-existing form of music. Now, I could just do whatever I wanted and figure out what fits. Felix brought me down a plate of scrambled eggs and bacon. But I felt nauseous and just left it there until Sebastian came down, and he ate the cold food like it didn't matter much to him.
