WATERLOO HILL SCHOOL

Stephen's mother pulled up, outside the school, in her car. Stephen and Abi were in the car. Stephen sat head bowed. He was wearing his own clothes

Abi's boyfriend, Carl, was waiting for her on the pavement and she jumped out of the car to meet him

''See you later mum'' she said

''Ok have a nice day. Remember what I told you about Stephen, you will keep an eye on him'' the mother said

''Yeah Mum I know''

Abi rushed off to see Carl and Stephen and his mother watched them go

''So nice to see a boy and a girl together just like it should be'' Stephen's mother said and Stephen felt angry at her bitchy comment

Stephen's mother turned to look at him ''Come on we have to go and see Mrs Marsden and I want you to cheer up a bit. I won't have you being so miserable''

''Can you blame me for being miserable?'' Stephen asked ''You're forcing me into something I don't want''

''Well this is the only solution to fix your gay phase darling''

''But mum look its not a gay phase'' Stephen argued in frustration ''People don't just stop being gay you know''

''Well we'll have to take you to church and ask the pastor for some assistance then'' his mother said ''we must fix this at once''

''Why mum? why is it so bad''

Stephen's mother looked very grim indeed ''I do not want my son getting sentenced to eternal punishment on judgment day for this severe sin! You must be in a relationship with a woman, you must get married and have a ton of kids to create soldiers for the lord!''

''I don't even want kids anyway!''

Now Stephen's mother was truly horrified ''Well you must! you must have lots and lots of kids! The second they are born they will be taken to church!'' she cried ''Now come on time to go inside!

Abi and Carl were sitting in Waterloo Hill canteen

''So they found out Steve's gay and they are sending him here to keep him away from Joe'' Abi explained to Carl

''But there are boys here too? What's to stop him from getting a new boyfriend?'' Carl wondered

''It's going to be my duty to keep an eye on him and make sure he isn't getting too friendly with any boys here. I must also try and fix him up with a girlfriend. He is a good-looking boy and there are some sad cows here who are desperate for a boyfriend. It shouldn't be too hard really''

Carl was sceptical ''I'm not convinced your parents have thought this through properly''

''No they haven't but they are incredibly homophobic. It's the church filling them with this stuff you see''

Stephen and his mother were sitting with a grey-haired woman in an office

''I'm Mrs Marsden, the headteacher, Stephen'' she told him

''Yeah Miss I know'' he said

''I am delighted to welcome you to our school. I'm so sorry that things were not working out at Grange Road''

''Actually I wanted to stay there. It was my parent's idea to send me here. I really don't want to be here''

Stephen's mother spoke ''He is very mad about it right now as you can see. But this is for his own good in the long run. He needs time to settle in''
