Part 39 - PUNISHMENT TIME

Finally Sean was ready to reveal the new regime in its full horror. He gathered half the staff together and fired them. Naturally they were all shocked and angry and tried to protest

''This is outrageous!'' 

''Yes this is totally outrageous''

Sean didn't care nor did he have time to listen to their complaints ''I realise its a shock for you but i simply don't need you anymore sorry'' he told them ''Now please leave quietly and quickly i do not have time to waste arguing over this. My decision is final''

After the staff who had been fired had finally left Sean gathered the half he was keeping, which included Sandra, Sally. Alan Murphy, Martin his obedient trainee and of course his new deputy governor and Cynthia remained as the school secretary

''I expect you are all wondering why i fired half the staff?'' he asked them

''Yes yes of course'' Sandra replied ''It does seem rather strange that you did that. Are you planning to replace them with new teachers or something? I don't know why most of them were good teachers''

''I'm not planning to replace them'' Sean said

Now Sandra , Alan and the others were quite alarmed and confused. Except for Sally, Graham, Cynthia and Martin as Sean had already revealed his plans to them. Sally was the only one of the four who knew who was worried about it the others all thought it was great

''Then i'm afraid i really don't understand'' Alan Murphy said ''It appears the school will now be severely short staffed?''   

  ''Well now i will explain why i fired half the teachers'' Sean said with glee ''This school no longer needs so many staff''

He explained his new regime

''We'll focus on our most intelligent boys only'' he said ''The rest will not need too much attention. The prefects will supervise and punish the other boys''

''Mr Lewis this really is the most outrageous thing i have ever heard'' Sandra said and most of the others agreed with her. Even Murphy was shocked by it

''Well this is my school now remember i own the school and i decide what happens here'' Sean said ''Anyone who doesn't like it is free to resign. Why waste time on boys who are a lost cause when we can concentrate on our most intelligent boys''

''But Sean come on what will we do with the rest of the boys all day every day?'' Murphy asked

''Some of them will work and some of them will be trained for the army'' Sean said

''I give Sean my full support for his new regime'' Graham told them all ''And as an ex army soldier i am willing and capable of training boys for the army''

''Ok well some of them are bound to join the army anyway and it seems a good idea to train them for it'' Murphy was forced to admit

''Yes exactly. A fair amount of these boys are destined for the army'' Sean said

''Ok well what do you mean when you say some of them will work?'' Sandra asked

''What i mean Sandra is this'' Sean started to explain ''I am planning to open a factory and some workshops in the school and some of the boys will work in them. I will make money from this of course''

''Like slaves or something. You want to exploit these boys really?'' a disgusted Sandra said

''No not exploit them exactly. Just make good use of their only purpose in life which will be to eventually work in a factory, warehouse or workshop. May as well train them and give them the experience they need ready for their future doing that''
