the following day was a busy day for maya. despite only recovering from her injuries last night and discovering a huge secret about herself that had been kept from her, her whole life, she continued her duties as a princess to bring the kingdom back on track before she was to depart again.
natsu awoke naturally from his sleep, staring up at the ceiling as happy snored away beside him. it was still early morning and looking outside the window, he figured it was probably eight a.m at best considering the position of the sun. after him and the others had been kicked out of maya's room, he had slept in one of the guest bedrooms on the other side of the castle where everyone else's rooms were. he had to admit, he was a little hurt that he was kicked out too, but he knew that maya needed to come to terms with everything that had been dropped on her, even if that meant she had to do it on her own.
not wanting to disturb his feline best friend, natsu carefully lifted himself off of the bed, heading into the bathroom to freshen up before he began his trek back to maya's bedroom. although he silently agreed to let her be by herself last night, he knew what type of person maya was. he knew that she would think of every negative aspect possible of the situation until she spiralled out of control and distanced herself from everyone, but natsu refused to let her do that again. he already had enough regret that he had let it happen to her on so many occasions, he vowed that he won't let that happen anymore.
"maya?" he carefully called out for the girl, peeking his head through the bedroom door as he glanced towards the bed where he expected her to be. instead, he was surprised to see an empty bed with the girl nowhere in sight. although there was a linger of her scent in the room, he could tell immediately that she had only just left. luckily for him, her unique smell was easy to track and it didn't take him long to find her in her father's study.
"natsu," her eyes met his as he entered the room, her face immediately lighting up at the sight of him. "you're up early." she commented, pieces of papers in her hands as she had been busy reading through them. the dragon slayer was surprised to see her already back up on her feet and working, but maya couldn't afford to waste time crying when she wanted to hurry back home and get out of ceran.
"what are you doing?" he questioned, approaching the girl as he shut the door behind him. "shouldn't you get some sleep?" maya's lips curled into a small smile as she avoided his gaze, setting the paper back down onto a pile on the desk.
