"we managed to get through." maya breathed out in relief, releasing natsu's arm as they walked through into the island.
"yeah, but even the town is crawling with soldiers too." gray pointed out, her gaze landing on the aforementioned as they realised they were completely surrounded.
"we can't do anything careless." mest agreed. maya glanced up at her boyfriend, her eyes narrowing at the pinkette who seemed to feel her burning gaze.
"i won't do anything!" he exclaimed, in an attempt to defend himself. maya sighed, turning away with a shrug.
"i didn't say anything." she pointed out, teasing the boy as he flushed red.
"outsmarted by your own girlfriend." gray teased, his smug smirk irritating natsu as the dragon slayer was about to fire a comeback when their attention was suddenly caught by a little boy's cries.
"give my daddy back!" their eyes landed on a group of a few soldiers that were circled around him, staring down at him tauntingly as he begged for his father back. "where did you take him!? daddy!" maya's fists clenched in frustration as she stared at the ordeal, her heart breaking at the sound of his cries.
"this brat's as disobedient as his old man." one of them commented.
"endure it natsu." erza mumbled, catching maya's attention as she peered over at natsu who looked ready to pounce on the soldiers at any given second.
"we can't do anything about them, no matter what." mest added in, reminding them that they had to keep a low profile, but even maya was struggling to hold herself back.
"daddy!" the boy's cries only got louder as he pleaded over and over again. her eyes widened in surprise as she watched one of them grab the hilt of his sword and draw it out of its sheath before holding it threateningly towards the kid.
