"where am i?" maya questioned, her eyes fluttering open as she tried to get a hold of her surroundings. 

"you're awake!" happy caught her attention as she peered over to find natsu and him cuffed with magic sealstones. she glanced down at her own wrists, finding them cuffed too. "is your stomach okay?" she placed a gentle hand against her stomach, although she was no longer in pain, the sensation still lingered as the memories of a year ago replayed in her mind.

"yeah, i'm fine." she nodded, lying to the two so as to not worry them, but it seemed to have the opposite affect as she noticed their concerned silence. "but gray..." she trailed off, changing the subject as they nodded in agreement.

"he was always a jerk, but now he's an even bigger jerk." natsu commented, annoyance clear in his tone.

"i can't believe he erased his guild mark." happy added, seeming just as frustrated.

"huh?" maya glanced over at the exceed in surprise. "his guild mark... is gone?" she questioned, having missed the reveal whilst she was writhing in pain. "it has to be fake! gray wouldn't do something like this." she argued, still believing that the ice mage that she grew up with was in there somewhere.

"yeah," happy agreed, nodding his head. "he would never do anything like this." a silence enveloped them. they voiced their feelings of wanting to believe in gray, but there was an obvious sense of doubt within their belief as natsu could only replay maya's screams as gray allowed it to happen. his hands clenched into fists, frustrated that he had been so helpless.

"someone's coming." her eyes narrowed towards the cell door, catching their attention as they anticipated who was approaching. the torture man from earlier appeared in silence, the three of them watching carefully as he suddenly bowed to nothing, freaking them out as they flinched in surprise. 

"where's gray!?" natsu cut in, slamming his body against the bars as he glared at the man. "bring him here!" 

"gray-dono and the others are no longer here." he answered. "they've left to begin the purification plan. i, on the other hand, am here to find out who sent you... via torture." 

"purification plan?" happy questioned.

"the purification of souls." maya's eyes widened at the mention of souls before narrowing into a glare. "the deaths of countless innocents will beckon zeref's arrival." her jaw clenched in frustration at the mention of the dark wizard.
