[ EPISODE FIFTY NINE ]

"bye bye!" maya waved as she stood by the railing, oran and the other members of the lumiere castle household standing with him stared with worry-filled eyes, waving back at the girl who sailed away on the ship. "i believe in you! oran!" the boy flinched at the sound of his name, her words seeming to get through to him as his lips finally curled into a small smile. she grinned, sending him a thumbs up.

although she put on a façade, her guildmates could see through it as they stared at her in concern, watching as she stepped away from the edge and finally turned around to face them. "we could've spent a few days longer, i'm sure the master wouldn't have minded." erza assured, placing a hand on the girl's shoulder, but she shook her head, rejecting the suggestion.

"we already spent longer there whilst waiting for me to recover and then the coronation too, this is still just a job request." she responded, although her words didn't match the torn expression she held on her face. the others seemed to be stumped with what to say, unable to find the right words of encouragement to cheer maya up.

"maya..." happy flew into the girl's chest, giving her a tight hug which caused a small smile to appear as she wrapped her arms around his small feline body. just his comfort caused the mask to crack as tears lined her vision, the pain that she had been holding back for so long finally pouring out as she left the place she once called home.

"i'm.. sorry." she suddenly apologised, unable to meet their gaze as she instead stared down at the exceed, placing a gentle hand against the back of his head. "i dragged you all into my mess and got you all injured... this was my problem but i―"

"that's not what fairy tail is about." erza cut her off. "you're our family, maya, we'd jump into a fire if it meant saving you," maya looked up at her in surprise, not expecting her tone to be so annoyed. "when will you realise that?" when erza was met with silence, the other members couldn't help but stare at maya in concern, unable to read her expression as she looked away from erza's intense gaze.

"is it really okay for me to have a family?" she suddenly asked, tearing her eyes away as she looked off to the side, the feeling of guilt that had been bubbling inside her was finally pouring over. although she wanted to laugh and enjoy her time with her guildmates, she was now facing the truth that she had ran away from for so long. "i killed my fake parents, and my real parents abandoned me, i joined fairy tail and was finally welcomed with open arms, but can i really live with this illusion? what if something happens again because of me?"
