Author's POV
Trilok grunts in frustration as he paces the living room. Aradhana's gaze flicks between her husband and her son worriedly. Rajveer looks at Trilok expectantly to which he scowls. "Why are you showing this care when you're the cause of this mess in the first place?!", he spat distastefully at his father. Rajveer kept his cool. "He's still your father Lok", Aradhana chided gently as her hands fidgeted with her nuptial chain in nervousness. "Yeah right", Trilok mutters as he dials the number again. "He isn't fucking answering the damn call", he grits out. Viren shakes his head. "He's doing it on purpose", he claims. "I swear if he doesn't answer my call in the next five minutes I'm going to barge in his house-", Trilok's words get interrupted by Shreya as she descends the stairs.
"He won't answer uncle", Ayansh's head shoots up at Shreya's voice. His eyes sharpening but his face betrays nothing of his inner turmoil. Shreya could feel his scrutiny without looking at him. To say that she was scared would be an understatement. Ayansh's silence since Ishani had passed out was terrifying.
Daunting. Chilling to the bone.
"What do you mean?", Trilok questions, barely suppressing his anger. Shreya gulps, trying to reduce her fear. Everyone is disturbed, enraged......murderous. For Ishani. She feels the warmth of gratefulness in her chest. Grateful that her sister got such a caring family. But still, it's unnerving to be under their vigil. Their untrusting gaze.
"Her parents go to Ladakh on almost all festivals", Shreya utters slowly. "Ladakh? Why Ladakh? Do they have relatives there or something?", Devika questions, her tone sharp. "I don't know. Neither do Ishani or Ishaan bhaiya. Her parents never took them to Ladakh. Whenever they had to go, Ishani and Ishaan bhaiya would stay over at ours. Later, after Ishaan bhaiya left for college and his work, Ishani would come over. And when she grew older they just ler her be. But their visits to Ladakh never ceased", Shreya responds. Devika looks at her suspiciously. Shreya sighs heavily as her eyes closed for a moment.
"I know you all are angry that I didn't say anything before. But trust me, I'm not lying. I tried to help her as much as she'd allow me to", she pleads desperately. She did not want Ranawats as her enemies too.
"Allow you to?", Aradhana look at her confused. "Look beta, I know none of this is your fault, but you are her best friend. Her sister. We have seen how close you two are. Then why didn't you.......I don't understand.....". Shreya sighs. "Yes she is my sister. I love her a lot. But she loves me too. After what happened to Nitya", Shreya pauses as her own guilt threatens to swallow her whole. "She didn't wanna lose me too and so she stopped telling me things. As long as we were in the same school and campus, I could figure out what was happening and I helped her as much as I could. But once we started working, she shut me out and-", she sighs. "It was impossible to reach her. Especially after the whole starvation thing"
