Charlotte, Aaron, and Rebecca all sat underneath Aaron’s art bridge. Charlotte and Rebecca smoked weed together, while Aaron spray painted on the floor. It was warm, a summer afternoon. As Rebecca took a hit, Charlotte stared at Aaron, who was kneeling on the floor, concentrating.

“Hey, Aaron.” She blurted, leaning back against the wall. “I have a question.”

Aaron stood up, brushing his knees. “Sup?” He looked down at her.

“Why do you waste your time making art?”

Aaron stared for a second, unsure of how to take that question. “Uhh.” He looked away. “What do you mean?”

“Like, you spend so much time here, but, like, what for?”

“So I can sell my art.” He also just liked making art.

Charlotte laughed lightly. “Hasn't worked out for you so far, huh?” She smirked.

Aaron laughed awkwardly, not knowing how to react. Rebecca smiled, leaning forward from behind Charlotte. “I'd buy your art, Ron.”

He smiled a little. “Thanks.”

“Nah, but like, you spend so much money for those silly little paint cans? And you can't really sell the shit you make down here, anyway.” Charlotte went on casually.

Aaron rubbed the back of his neck. “I guess..”

Rebecca tsked playfully. “Don't be so cold, honey.” She stretched her arms in the air. “Mm..-! He does it for our enjoyment.” She sighed as she slouched back down again.

Charlotte laughed, looking at her. “That's true. I just wonder why, sometimes. Seems like a waste of time.”

Aaron chuckled awkwardly. “Yeah.” He turned around to look down at the artwork he was working on. His smile disappeared, and his hands lay still at his sides.

..Was it a waste of time?

Aaron set down the paint can, then turned and joined the other two on the floor. Even after Charlotte and Rebecca left, he couldn't seem to bring up the motivation to finish the art piece.
