Him Again (Bakugou Katsuki x Reader)

74. Realisation

"This is the place?" Endeavor whispered in your ear. You gulped and nodded at him. He peered into the shop. It looked quite ordinary. So did the owner.

"Let's go inside." He said. You and Shoto followed him. "Just pretend like it's a normal day." He said.

You opened the door. There he was. Marlo. Yelling at waitresses as usual.

He froze when he saw you. He blinked. "Y/N?" He stood up. "You-" he stopped when he noticed the number one hero next to you.

"-You're late for your shift!!" He said and tossed you an apron. You nodded and put it on. His eyes bore into yours. You glared back before looking away. But you could practically feel the rage radiating off of him. "Get the customers seated." He grumbled.

"I'll question him. You do your job." Endeavor mumbled to you and made his way towards Marlo. "You're the owner?" He said.

You walked over to Shoto and sat him down at a table. "So.... What would you like?"
Shoto glanced at the menu for a bit and then said, "Soba."
You deadpanned at him. "....This is a pizza place, Shoto."
"Cold soba." He said.
"I- Alright."

You placed a bowl of soba on his table and took a seat. His eyes lit up and he began digging in. "Just how much do you like soba? We had it last night too..."

He nodded. "It's great, thank you." He said. "Would you like some?"
"No, thank you, i hate soba." You said.
Shoto nearly spat out the soba in his mouth. "How- How dare you?"

You almost burst out laughing at his expression. He looked so hurt and heartbroken. "I.... I need to rethink our friendship..." He said, looking around, unsure of his life choices. You chuckled at him and continued to make small talk.

Shoto smiled. He always felt like he could be himself around you. Your hair was pretily pulled into a loose bun. Your cheeks, your eyes, your nose, your lips... everything was perfect. Hell, even your laugh was beautiful.

You noticed him staring at you. He quickly looked away and cleared his throat.
"Where's your boyfriend?" He asked.
"Gone." You scoffed.
"Oh... I saw him in the common room this morning, though."
"No- I mean I'm not with him anymore." You sweat dropped. The boy was so slow....

"Oh, why not?"
"Let's not talk about it." You looked away. He knew it was wrong but he couldn't stop a small smile from creeping onto his face. For some reason, the fact that you and Katsuki had broken up made his heart swell.

He quickly wiped his smile away before you noticed and continued to chomp away at his delicious soba.

After your shift, you went back to Shoto's house. "So?" You started. "Did you get anything on him?"

Endeavor shook his head. "There's nothing suspicious about him. We've got no proof."

You sighed as Shoto held the door open for you. You had no idea how you were going to prove what happened to everyone. You had told Endeavor everything the previous night.

You made your way up the stairs to your mother's room. She pulled you into a hug when she saw you.

"So. Tell me more about yourself." She smiled at you warmly.
You chuckled. "I told you so much yesterday!"
"Ohhh it's not nearly enough! Do you remember Katsuki? Is he still living there? Shoto tells me he got into UA too! Oh, you were inseparable back then! Did you ever reconnect?"

Your face fell. You didn't want to talk about Katsuki. He made your blood boil.
"Let's not talk about him...."
"...Okay. Enji tells me he asked you about a quirk marriage with Shoto without even consulting me! Can you believe that man! But you turned it down. Are you seeing anyone?" She nudged your shoulder playfully.

"No..."
She frowned. "You know you can tell me anything." She said.

You nodded before realising that she couldn't see you. "It's alright mom. I don't need to she anyone. I have you, don't I?" You chirped.

She looked extremely guilty. "Oh, Y/N! I'm so sorry.... This is my last week in this city."

"What?" You stared at her. "You're joking."
"I'm sorry... I can't stay anywhere for too long. I have to go to Enji's safe house in Hosu."

You felt your heart stop. What had you been thinking? You almost wanted to laugh at yourself. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you had just assumed that she was going to stay with you forever....

"No. You can't leave me!"
"I swear I'll visit!" She said. "I do want to stay with you..."
"Then stay!"

You couldn't believe it. It was like a sick joke to have her back in your life just for her never to have a permanent place in it. It was cruel. Sadistic.

"Stupor's already onto me, I think." She said. "Enji tells me you ran into a villain."

"I heard you met her. Roscoe. She's always with Stupor. Watch out for her. She looks like an innocent girl with light pink hair but she's not. She's always with a girl in a school uniform."

She shook her head. "They're a deadly duo." She cupped your face. "Be careful, Y/N."

You looked at her. She was exactly the same as you remembered. But there was one difference. Her eyes. Not only did she not have them anymore but they looked sad. Her smile was always half hearted. She looked lonely. Pained. Of course she was. She had been hiding for years. Caged. Trapped.

You shook your head. You didn't want that. You didn't want her to suffer. You didn't want her to hurt anymore.

"I promise I'll free you, Mom." You said. You almost felt a fire in your heart. You didn't care what happened to you. As long as you breathed, you were going to protect her. You were going to take Stupor down and put an end to her misery.

Shoto walked it. "Sorry to interrupt but we should leave, Y/N. Curfew." He said.

"Hurry back before the school gates close." Enji said. "You know better than anyone, Y/N, that villains could be lurking anywhere, especially at night. Some of them transform into anybody you know too."

You nodded and exited the house with Todoroki as he closed the gate behind you.

He was right. Toga could transform into anybody to merge in. You needed to be careful. Her and Roscoe could be a deadly combination if they were..... together.

Oh god.
