Since the moment she woke, Valera had a single goal in her mind.

To give the best first impression.

It started to manifest in the way she got up two hours earlier than Peter to bathe and get herself dressed.

Choosing one of her best and smartest outfits, Valera wore a dress made of checkered pale blue and white fabric.

It flowed down to her knees, cinched in at the waist with a belt of the same design, with long sleeves reaching to her wrists and a folded collar at her neck.

Simply accompanied by some tights, matte black pumps with a practical heel, and a long, buttoned black coat to put on when she left the house, Valera only had her hair and face to fuss over by the time Peter woke up.

"One of these days I'll wake up before you", Peter's voice caught her attention from where she was sat at her dresser, beginning to brush through her hair in the mirror.

"Chance would be a fine thing", the girl chuckled, watching her husband sit himself up in their bed.

Peter remained silent as Valera attempted to tie up her curls with a silk, white ribbon like Lucy had taught her to do.

She was tempted to try and use the face products Susan had gifted her which would produce a rosy colour on her cheeks and a bolder colour on her lips, but she didn't yet trust herself with such business.

Perhaps if they got there early enough, Susan could do it for her.

But for now, she would settle with her touched-up appearance and hope it presented the image she would be trying to uphold.

A normal girl living in the countryside.

Certainly not a witch and a queen.

Still, if anyone were to look close enough, the three rings on her right hand would hint towards who she really was underneath.

Valera finally managed to tie her ribbon in a bow at the back of her head, keeping the top half of her hair up and out of her face.

But the rest of it wasn't falling around her shoulders just right.

She went over it and over it with a brush until her wrist started to hurt.

It was only put to an end when Peter came up behind her to snatch the brush from her hand.

"Enough with all the fussing. You look beautiful", he said, leaning forwards to kiss her cheek.

Valera accepted his compliment with a sigh, and stood up from the dresser to search for her coat and shoes.

"Aren't you going to get dressed? We don't want to miss the train", she asked Peter as she opened the wardrobe.

"Relax, Val. We'll get to the station in plenty of time."

Despite his reasoning, Peter still joined her side to reach for his own outfit for the day.

A perfect blend of smart and casual. Loose grey trousers that eerily resembled the ones he wore at school, but a light blue shirt with a pocket at the front, and a brown belt to separate the attire from his uniform.

"I'm assuming the others will already be there when we arrive", Valera said as she sat on the end of her bed to put on her shoes.

"Not having yet moved out of the house, I'd say there's a good chance", Peter replied, pulling a white vest on to go underneath his shirt.

"And your father will be the last to arrive?"

"Correct."

Valera stood and walked over to her husband as he put his arms through the sleeves of his shirt.
