It is of custom practice amongst the growing youth in the world Valera finds herself in to have what are commonly called 'breaks'.
They take place at certain times of year, and all those who are engaged in schools up and down the country are given time away from their academics.
For the Pevensie siblings, this time of year equates to a Christmas break.
Being out of school to spend time with family, engage in festive traditions, and take some well-deserved rest is how students are expected to pass their free days.
However, Valera was not offered the same curtesy.
Diggory, the true professor he was, had made it perfectly clear that his personal student was not going to be afforded time off her studies.
Valera was in a very different situation to anyone else in schools, and despite dedicating herself firmly and intently to her studies thus far, she was yet to scratch the surface of expected knowledge of someone her age in the year she had been learning.
What this meant was that after Christmas day, she was back to her routinely scheduled learning.
Even when Peter finally arrived come the new year, still on his own Christmas break, she found herself indisposed most days to sit in an office with books open in front of her and a quill in her hand.
Valera had never minded her studies much up until that point.
They were now getting in the way of something she desired more than acquiring knowledge.
Spending time with her husband.
After all, they had been separated for some time, and she believed Peter moving into the same house as her would make up for that issue.
It hadn't.
But Peter Pevensie was one for solutions, not sitting with problems that made his wife unhappy.
So two weeks into his move, with a final week to go until he returned to his own school, he had come up with an idea.
Diggory could take a break of his own, and step aside for Peter to take up the role of professor.
Given the things being taught to Valera were rather remedial, he wouldn't have an issue relaying information to her, and he also argued it would be of good practice for himself.
Brushing up on things that he might need to know in his own education, especially since he was soon to be taking very important examinations at the end of his final school year.
Diggory had accepted his proposition, and so the one week of Peter's teaching endeavours began.
"This isn't necessary, Peter. You're supposed to be taking time away from things like this."
Valera had hesitated to take the same stance as Diggory on all of this, despite being ecstatic with the prospect of spending more time with her husband.
The reason being what she had just said. Uninterrupted happiness was her goal for living with Peter again, and she knew his goal was the same.
As far as she could tell, his own academics were not linked to his happiness.
"Nonsense. I'm supposed to be spending more time with you, and if this is how I have to do it, then so be it", Peter replied, pulling the chair from her dresser into the centre of their now-shared bedroom.
Taking control her lessons for a week, Peter had decided not to teach her in the usual office space Diggory used.
Rather, Valera was currently sat cross-legged on her bed, wearing one of Peter's warm and rather over-sized jumpers, with her books placed in her lap.
