I opened the bathroom door and there she was-Blue, standing right in front of me. My heart dropped into my stomach. I wanted to run and hide, but I couldn't. She'd already seen me.
For a moment, all I could think was, How is she even here?
"Blue, what the hell are you doing here?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
"That doesn't matter, look at your face," she cried, tears already streaming down.
"Blue, baby, I'm okay," I said softly, but she wasn't having it.
"No the fuck... nevermind. Where he go?" she asked, turning to leave the room, ready to storm off. But I grabbed her arm before she could go.
"No, baby, please don't," I said, my voice pleading.
She turned to me, still crying. "Why? Somebody gotta show his ass!"
"Blue, you're going to make it worse," I said, holding her arm tight. "I got it, baby, I promise."
"Ms. Nicki, you need help, please," she begged, her eyes wide with worry.
"Blue, why are you here?" I asked, still trying to make sense of it all.
"I-I um..." she stammered.
"Who are you here with?" I asked, already feeling uneasy about the answer.
"Jashawn," she admitted quietly.
I sighed, frustration and worry bubbling up.
"Blue, why the fuck are you around him? Do you not see those men downstairs? This isn't a crowd you need to be around."
"But you should?" she shot back, and I paused, knowing she had a point.
I sighed again. "Blue, you need to-wait a damn minute, are you high?" I looked her up and down, noticing her avoidance.
She looked down, not meeting my gaze. "Blue, answer me!" I snapped.
"I just smoked a little," she mumbled.
"Now he got you smoking? You need to stay away from him. He is no good for you!" I said, my voice rising in frustration.
"Just like your man isn't good for you if he keeps hitting you," she shot back, catching me off guard.
She grabbed my hand and gently sat me down.
"Where's your health kit?" she asked, and I pointed to it weakly. I watched as she sniffed, wiping her nose, and brought it over, carefully cleaning my face.
I winced a little at the sting.
"I'm sorry you had to see me like this," I whispered, my heart aching for her to have witnessed any of it.
