Beyonce Knowles Las Vegas, NV
December 13
We touched down in Nevada, stepping off the jet into the dry desert air. The sun was already high, beating down as we made our way to the black truck waiting for us on the tarmac.
Kelly slid into the passenger seat, and I took the driver's seat, my mind already focused on the task ahead.
"They said she owns a casino uptown. It's called The Golden Oasis," Kelly said, glancing at me as she pulled her seatbelt on.
I nodded. "Okay, that's where we'll go."
As I started the engine and pulled out, Kelly looked at me, her face serious.
"You think she'll talk to us?"
I kept my eyes on the road, but the weight of the situation settled in. Trevante's mother wasn't an easy woman to track down, and from what I'd heard, she was a tough one to crack.
We were walking into unknown territory.
"I sure hope so," I said, glancing over at Kelly. "Maybe she can give us some of the answers we've been looking for."
But deep down, I knew this was a long shot. People like her didn't give up information easily, especially not when it involved someone like Trevante.
We had to play this smart, or we'd walk away with nothing-and that wasn't an option.
I drove to the hotel and we made it there ten minutes later.
I walked into the hotel lobby, the cool air a relief from the Nevada heat. After checking in, the receptionist handed me the key, and Kelly and I made our way up to the room.
Just as we stepped inside, my phone rang. It was Olivia.
I answered quickly. "Olivia."
"Hey, B. I've got some news for you," Olivia said, her voice steady. "Terri Davis just left town. Took off earlier today. Thought you should know."
I clenched my jaw. That didn't sit right with me. "Leaving town that fast? That's too suspicious. Have someone get down there and question her. I want to know why she's running."
"Got it," Olivia replied. "I'll get someone on it right away."
"Good," I said, hanging up the phone.
I stood there for a second, staring at the screen. I was done playing games. I needed answers from everyone-and I wasn't going to wait much longer to get them.
As we walked down the hallway toward the room, I turned to Kelly. "That was Olivia. She just called to tell me that Terri Davis left town."
Kelly raised an eyebrow. "Left town? She knows something."
