I wasn't expecting to see Blue here at all. I stared at her, completely caught off guard. "Blue, what are you doing here?"
She didn't even hesitate.
"No, what are you doing here at this time?" she shot back, like she had a right to question me.
I raised an eyebrow, refusing to let her flip the situation on me. "I asked you first."
Nicki, still looking shocked, turned to Blue. "Wait... this is your mom?" Her eyes darted between us like she was trying to figure out what was happening.
Blue just nodded and said, "Yep."
Nicki blinked, clearly trying to process this.
"Perfect. Let's talk," she said, turning to me now, her expression serious.
I wasn't even sure what we were supposed to be talking about, so I just asked, "About what?"
Before Nicki could even respond, Blue chimed in like she knew everything. "About Ms. Nicki needing help."
Nicki sighed, sounding tired. "Blue, seriously, I told you I'm fine."
I looked back at Blue, still confused.
"Okay, but why are you here, Blue?" I asked, trying to get to the bottom of this.
Blue smirked, still eating her food like she didn't have a care in the world. "Because someone didn't come home and it's almost 8 p.m. I called you, but I guess you were too... busy."
She glanced between Nicki and me, her smirk growing.
Nicki rolled her eyes, trying to downplay it. "Nothing happened, little girl."
Blue raised her eyebrows. "Oh? Mom, you never told me you were seeing Ms. Nicki," she said, acting like this was some big discovery.
I was still trying to wrap my head around it. "Seeing? I didn't even know this was the Ms. Nicki you were talking about!"
Blue, full of sass, leaned back and grinned. "I mean, I told you she needed help, but it looks like you were about to help her real good," she teased, dragging out the word.
My face was getting hotter by the second. "We didn't even do anything," I said quickly, trying to shut this down before it spiraled.
Blue wasn't buying it, though. "No kissing?" she asked, looking between us, her eyebrows raised.
Nicki just sipped her wine, trying to look unbothered, while I cleared my throat, wishing I could melt into the floor.
I needed to get control of this conversation. "Okay, let's focus on the main issue here."
