Blue Knowles Halle's Home
December 13
Me and Halle were sitting in the kitchen, chilling while her mom cooked. The smell of food filled the air, making my stomach growl a little.
I leaned back, just vibing, when Halle's mom looked over at me with a smile.
"So, Blue, what are you going to do for your birthday next month?"
I shrugged, not really sure. "I don't know... I haven't planned anything yet."
Before I could say anything else, Halle's eyes lit up, and she jumped in. "Oh, you should do something big! Like, rent a yacht for the day or maybe a trip to Cabo. You know, something major!"
I laughed, raising an eyebrow. "And who's paying for that?"
Halle rolled her eyes, smirking. "You know Ms. Beyoncé will do it. She always goes all out for you. Whatever you want, she'll make it happen."
I chuckled, shaking my head. "Yeah, I know she will, but honestly, I think I wanna do something small this year. Nothing too crazy."
Halle looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. "Small? For your 15th? Come on, Blue!"
I shrugged again. "I'm serious. I don't need all that. Just something chill, you know?"
Halle's mom laughed softly from the stove. "Whatever you decide, Blue, just make sure it's something you'll enjoy. It's your day."
I smiled. "Yeah, I'll figure it out."
Halle's father came rushing down the stairs, his scrubs on and phone pressed to his ear. His face looked tense, and it immediately caught our attention, making all of us glance back at him.
He hung up the phone quickly, walking over to kiss his wife on the cheek.
"What's going on, baby?" Halle's mom asked, sensing the worry in his face.
"There was a shooting at a restaurant uptown," he said, his voice heavy. "A lot of people got hurt. The hospital's swamped right now."
My heart immediately started racing. I sat up straight, feeling a wave of panic wash over me.
"Do you know which restaurant?" I asked, my voice a little shaky.
He looked over at me, his face softening slightly. "I'm not sure, Blue. I didn't catch the name, but I have to go. I'll call you once I know more."
He kissed his wife again and quickly rushed out the door, leaving us all sitting there in a tense silence. My thoughts were racing, a knot forming in my stomach as I wondered if it was the same place Nicki had gone with her mom.
