Solange Knowles
Kehlani's Party

October 31

I was watching everything closely, even while pretending to vibe with the music and the people around me. I noticed how my sister Beyoncé and Nicki were getting real close-closer than most would expect.

And then there was Kehlani, sneaking glances at Rihanna every time I placed my hand on her thigh.

But Nicki's body language, that's what caught my attention.

Something was up with her.

"Anybody need more drinks?" Nicki called out, already tipsy, standing up and grabbing Kehlani and Kelly's cups as she made her way over to the drinks.

I watched her for a second, then took one last hit off the blunt before ashing it out.

I stood up and followed her to the kitchen.

As I approached, she turned around and smiled, a bit off-guard.

"Hey, Blue's mom," she said, laughing lightly.

I chuckled, moving a little closer.

"Hello, Nicki. So... you and my sister?" I asked, keeping my tone light but watching her closely.

She looked back at me, caught a bit off balance. "Oh no, it's nothing like that," she chuckled, waving it off.

I smirked. "I wouldn't be mad at it, you know."

"Huh?" she said, clearly confused, her laugh now a little awkward.

I leaned against the counter, watching her as she poured the drinks. "Are you single, Nicki?"

Her face froze for a second before she stammered, "Uh, no..."

I nodded slowly, reading her hesitation like an open book.

"Yeah, I figured. You don't look like you're single," I said, letting the words hang in the air. "Your man must keep you on lock, huh?"

Nicki's brow furrowed, a flicker of unease passing across her face. "What do you mean?"

"Or, I mean if you have a girl.. she must keep you wrapped tight?" I asked.

Nicki's brow furrowed. "I don't know what you mean."

Solange quickly interjected, "Nevermind. You made this drink?"

Nicki nodded. "Yeah, you want some?"

I shook my head. "I can't drink... People think I'm crazy when I drink, but I just tell the truth. Don't you love that? How the truth can really set you free, Nicki."

"Um... yeah..." she said. "It's the best thing"

I watched Nicki carefully as I spoke, her brow furrowing just slightly, almost like she didn't want me to notice.
