I woke up to the smell of breakfast cooking, and my stomach immediately growled. I stretched, trying to shake off the sleep, but Kam startled me by saying, "TT up," right next to me. I hadn't even noticed him there, just sitting with his iPad like it was normal.
I smiled. "What are you doing in here?"
He just shrugged, "I dunno," and I laughed as I got up.
Of course, he started whining the second I moved.
"I'm just going to the bathroom, Kam," I said, but he wasn't letting me go alone. "I go too," he said, hopping off the bed, so I helped him down and we headed to the bathroom together.
Once we were in there, Kam pointed at my stomach. "Big," he said, like only a kid would.
I looked down, then playfully pushed his head.
"Boy, hush," I laughed, but as I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I noticed my stomach did look a little bigger than it did yesterday.
As I stood there brushing my teeth, my mind kept drifting back to the baby. Seeing my body change, even just a little, made it all feel so real, but at the same time, it brought up all these feelings I wasn't sure I was ready to face.
I wanted this baby, I really did. But with everything going on, I couldn't help but wonder if now was really the right time.
I sighed, looking at my reflection, trying to convince myself I could handle it, that we could handle it.
But doubt crept in.
What if things got too overwhelming? What if she wasn't ready to go through this again? I hated that I was even thinking this way, but it was hard not to when there was so much happening around us.
I finished brushing my teeth and looked at Kam, who was still happily playing by my side, completely unaware of all the thoughts swirling in my head.
I smiled at him, but inside.
I grabbed Kam's hand and said, "Come on, let's go downstairs."
We were about to head down, but then I spotted Lauren and her fiancé in the middle of a serious make-out session. I thought... nevermind chileeee.. I just shook my head and cleared my throat.
They broke apart, and he looked up, kind of embarrassed. "Oh hey, sis-in-law, didn't know you were here."
I smiled awkwardly.
"Same," I said, shooting a glance at Lauren, who was totally avoiding my eyes.
He picked up Kam, saying, "Alright, lil' man, let's go," then turned to Lauren.
