I sat with Blue in the kitchen, both of us eating cereal, not saying much-like it could get any quieter around here.

I broke the silence, asking, "You want to do anything today?"

She barely glanced up, still chewing. "Like what?" she asked.

I thought for a moment, trying to come up with something that might get her to smile. "We could go get our nails done?"

She shook her head. "I'm fine," she mumbled.

I sighed, feeling the same old weight. "You want to grab some food?" I offered, hoping for a different answer.

She shrugged, not looking up. "Depends, but not really."

I just nodded, letting it go, but then the doorbell rang. I exchanged a look with Blue, and she stayed put. "Stay here," I told her, getting up slowly.

My belly felt heavier with every step as I made my way to the door. I peeked through the peephole-just in case-and let out a relieved breath when I saw it was Solange.

I opened the door, and there she was, dressed in all black, flashing me a smile before pulling me into a hug. Her hand immediately went to my belly, rubbing it like always.

"Girl, my nephews got you so big!" she teased, and I couldn't help but laugh a little, nodding.

"I know, it's getting heavier every day," I replied. We both chuckled and made our way into the kitchen.

She gave Blue a big hug, smothering her face with kisses like she always did, trying to cheer her up.

"I need y'all both to get dressed and come with me," Solange said, that determined look in her eyes.

Blue glanced up, looking suspicious. "What's going on?" she asked, and I felt a little nervous too.

But Solange just brushed it off, smiling like it was no big deal. "It's nothing bad. I just want to take y'all somewhere, get out of the house."

Blue hesitated, not looking convinced. "I'm okay," she mumbled, but Solange wasn't playing around.

"I didn't ask," she shot back. "Go put on some clothes, now." Blue rolled her eyes but got up slowly, dragging her feet up the stairs.

Solange turned to me, and her face softened. "Girl, you too, but I know you can't walk that fast anymore, so you get a pass," she joked, grinning.

I laughed and swatted at her playfully. "Shut up," I said, but I couldn't help the smile she put on my face.

For the first time in a while, it felt like maybe things could be a little better, even if just for today.
