Blue Ivy Knowles Bowling Rink
December 19, 2025
"Y'all, it's 10 p.m. Do y'all want to play another game?" Darryl asked as the boys came back inside the building.
"I guess we can," Halle said, shrugging.
"You want to play?" I turned to Ming, noticing the slight nervousness on her face.
"I've never played it before," she admitted, biting her lip.
"Oh, it's easy, girl. We can help you," I reassured her with a smile.
Amir laughed from across the room. "Well, hold on, it ain't fair now. It's three against two."
We all laughed at that, and Darryl chimed in, "They need the help anyways. Ming, thank God you're here 'cause these girls were getting their ass kicked."
Ming chuckled softly. I got up and added her name to the board so she could play with us.
"Alright, I'll go first," Amir said, grabbing his bowling ball.
As I sat back down, I noticed Ming glancing at her phone, her lock screen showing a picture of a cute little girl.
My nosy ass couldn't help but ask, "Is that your little sister?"
She smiled softly. "She's actually my daughter."
Wait a damn minute. "Your daughter?" I asked, needing to hear that again.
"Yeah," she said, with a small shrug. "It's okay, I know you're probably judging me. That's why my dad and I agreed to say she's my sister. It's just easier that way."
I reached over and grabbed her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "I'm not judging you. I don't know what you've been through, and it's none of my business. But what I do know is that I don't want you doing whatever you were doing before. You're our friend now, boo, and my mama can help if you need anything."
Ming's eyes widened. "Oh no, I couldn't ask you to do that."
"Oh well..." I said, standing up for my turn to bowl. "I don't take no for an answer, so you really have no choice."
I walked over to the lane, picked up my ball, and studied the pins. I'm tired of them talking shit, and with Ming here, I gotta show out.
I rolled the ball down the lane, watching it hit most of the pins, leaving just two standing.
"Yeah, talk shit now!" I turned around with a smirk, and they all laughed.
"You still got two left. See if you can get that," Amir teased, as usual, my number one hater.
I rolled my eyes, grabbed another ball, and rolled it, knocking both pins down. Turning back to Amir, I walked over and playfully mushed his head.
"Big Blue, not the little one," I said, grinning as everyone cracked up laughing.
