I was in my office, researching the older guy I saw with Ming the other night. James had forwarded his information to me, and I was going to make sure we kept an eye on him.
He was arrested ten years ago for assault and battery, with a minor misdemeanor charge five years ago.
I kept wondering how she got involved with him, and why. I gave her my number, but she hasn't used it yet. I prayed I'd run into her again so I could make sure she was okay.
I felt this strange pull to help her. If I'm being honest, she reminded me of Onika... which was odd.
I just hoped I wasn't biting off more than I could chew, getting involved in something that had nothing to do with me. But at the same time, she's a young girl, and being a mother myself, I couldn't just ignore that.
"Bitch, come on, the meeting's in five minutes," Kelly said, sticking her head in my door. Angela had called a mandatory meeting, probably to announce her departure.
I logged out of my computer, stood up, grabbed my phone and cup of coffee, and walked with Kelly to the conference room down the hall.
"What do you think this meeting is about?" Kelly asked, glancing over at me.
"I'm not sure," I shrugged, lying.
I didn't want to spoil it, plus I was still a bit nervous about everyone finding out. I know Nicki and Blue reassured me, but that feeling of uncertainty was still there.
We made it to the conference room and sat down with everyone. It felt eerie knowing the last meeting we had included people who were no longer living-Greg and Olivia.
"It's so weird not seeing Olivia or Greg here," someone commented, making me glance up. Funny, we were thinking the same thing.
"It's good they're gone," Yolanda shrugged.
"How can you say that?" someone else snapped. "They were your teammates. No matter what they did, they were still human and deserve respect."
"B-" Yolanda started, but I cut her off.
"You're defending the same people who were dirty? The same people who contributed to me and my family going through hell the past few months? You can't be serious... unless you're one of them," I said, glaring at her.
She slumped in her chair, looking uncomfortable.
"And you can join them," Kelly added.
"Kelendria..." I warned, trying not to laugh.
"Did you just threaten me?" the woman shot back. "You know I could literally report you right now and get you fired."
Kelly smirked, sipping her coffee. "Your word against mine."
