I start roaring my engine feeling alive, feeling free, the ice cold night air hitting me like a ton of bricks. It feels amazing, so refreshing. At first I started to do this to say fuck you to school sports but now it's really been my way to let go and being free.
"Are you ready to lose?" The guy next to me says what an idiot. He's so confident in himself just because I'm a girl. He's going to lose tonight and then mope around like the rest of them. "Why don't you save your talk for the race?" I say. I love the feel of the cold.
That's why my favorite season is winter. It's so amazing. Snow falling on you, the ice cold air, making snowmen. The countdown starts and the crowd is still going crazy. The girl finally puts the flag down, indicating that we can go.
I zoom fast but still hold back a little bit, leaving some momentum in my wake. The guy's expression is shocked. His smugness has disappeared, and now he's focused on the road. Not that it matters either way, I'm only teasing him.
The faster I go and the more I'm ahead of him, the angrier he gets. I look through my rearview mirror to see his reactions and its priceless. Serves him right for being a smug bitch. He's not feeling so smug now. I don't want this race to be over as yet.
It's starting to get boring, when we're halfway through, the guy starts bumping on my car, which is totally against the rules even if this is an illegal street race. "Hey, what the fuck!" I shout the repairs are going to be expensive. It's so irritating when they can't take a loss for a loss.
Despite his attempts to ram my car in, I still managed to win by a mile. I jump out of the car only to be greeted by my friend's tight hug. "Oh my God you were amazing." Sarah says looking marginally better compared to last month. "You totally put that smug asshole in his place."
Azania says, her silver streaks glistening in the light. "You were incredible." Sky says, this is not usually her scene but she came for me, which makes it extra special. I know that she's upset that she missed the last year's one because of her father but now that he's out of the picture, she looks so much happier and so much lighter than she did.
"Thank you guys. Really thank you. I without your support. I doubt I'd be able to do all of this." I say. Behind us I can hear the guys friends teasing him and tormenting him about losing to a girl. "That bitch was totally cheating. She had to have given the car guy a blow job or something."
That ignites my anger. I turn around. "Really? Do you think that's what it takes to beat against you? Your ego must be so high. It doesn't take much to beat trash, so maybe you should think about improving your skills because even though you were the one who cheated by trying to ram my car in,
I still beat you and your stupid self cannot get over the fact that you lost, which is truly not my problem. Still, you can enjoy sulking with your 'big boy' friends." I say, scowling at him. Then I turn around and go to the drinking station, past the crowd.
Fights do happen after races often, especially mine but it's not a truly my fault. "Well, that was something. I guess you do know how to do stuff. You know something except for scowling and insulting people for no reason." Nate says from behind me.
God, I hate him. I turn around, scowling at him. "I don't insult people for no reason, I only insult idiots that deserve it. That idiot deserved it." He murmured something I can't hear over the music. Now that I pay closer attention to it, oddly enough Heaven and Back by Chase Atlantic is playing.
It's Azania and my favorite song. I have to find her. I push past Nate and go into the crowd, only to get lost. There's so many people here that it seems impossible. I move back a little to feel our hard body pressed against mine from behind. "Whoa, watch your step there, little lady."
