Chapter Forty-Nine

I go into my room and it's just an empty space. It's like a maze of sorts. By the time I make it out, the others are already out, confused. "Nick, did you also go through a maze room? Nothing different about it at all, just you normal brick walls?" Sarah asks me.

"Yes, that's exactly what it was like." "We all got the exact same thing. This entire thing was rigged." Natalia says. "Where's Azania?" I ask. And a look of realization hits the other's faces, and the realization hits me as well. X wasn't coming for the rest of us.

He wanted her all along. I quickly rushed to where her path was supposed to end. It was unlocked. I opened it and I called her name. It was a House of mirrors. I called her name, but she doesn't respond. I know that she's gone. I look through the entire maze, every inch of it,

and I don't find her. The others look with me and they say the exact same thing. She's gone. "This can't be happening. I mean, what are we supposed to do? He kidnapped her." Natalia says. "He can't kill her. She's the only person who can get down to the case.

She's the key to unlocking all of it. He can't kill her." Nate says. "Yeah, but he can hurt her. Oh my God I really hope that she's ok. We need to tell the police." Sarah says. "And what exactly are we supposed to tell them?

Hey, we've been listening to this mystery dude who we think possibly killed our friend and he threatened to kill us at the end of the year and we just blindly followed his instructions to this abandoned fair which was working while we were at it for some reason and now our friends been kidnapped.

Do you mind helping us search for her? That's not going to help." Natalia says. "Natalia's right." I say and everybody looks at me surprised. "But I know a way that doesn't involve the police that can get over a thousand people here in a matter of hours." A look of realization hits Nate's face.

"You can't be serious, that's a code red. You only use that for emergencies." He says. "This is an emergency and nobody will question me. I am capo and I will do as I'm supposed to. Anybody who questions me, dies. She's gone and I will find her no matter what." I say purely determined.

I take the tiny remote out of my pocket and I hit the red button. They should be here soon and I won't rest until every stone is turned in this God damn estate and she is in my arms. I will destroy this place if I have to. I will destroy the world if I have to. I won't lose her again. I can't. I will die before I let that happen. "So what do we do now?" Sarah asks. "Now we wait." I respond.
