Chapter 17

I quickly shoved the contents back inside the box and hurried inside. After locking all the doors in the house I went to my room. I slid the box in my underwear drawer and then slammed it shut hoping it would just disappear. This person wanted me to kill Justin at the party Selena and I had been planning. That's why this person didn't want me to break up with Justin. This person wasn't trying to hurt me, he/she was trying to kill Justin! And if I didn't do it, the whole world would know that I had stolen from a gas station. I would go to jail and I would never get hired for a job. But I couldn't kill Justin. I wouldn't do it.

The next two days went by and all I could think about was that box. If i did it Justin would be dead and i would be a murderer. But if i didn't do it my whole career would be ruined. Around 6pm while I was eating I got a call from the director.

"Hello?" I asked nervously gripping my fork.

"Is this Kate Dawson?" He asked.

"Yes." I replied trying to calm myself down.

"I am calling to inform you that you got the lead role as Fay. Congratulations!" He said.

"Oh my gosh thankyou!" I squealed running into Selena's room.

"We'll send the formalities in the mail." He said.

"Thank you!" I squealed again.

"Your welcome, bye now." He said and then hung up.

"Selena!!!!! Guess!!!!! What!!!!!!" I screamed shaking her shoulders.

"What?" She asked laughing.

"I got the part!!!!!!!!!!" I screamed having a spaz attack.

"Omg my god!!! Seriously!! Oh my god !!!! Yay!!!" Selena screamed with me. We jumped around her room screaming and freaking out.

"I did it!!! I'm gonna be an actress!!!"

"You're gonna be an actress!! Your dreams have come true!!!!!!!"

"Whoa, what's going on?" Justin asked walking into the room. At the sight of Justin all the excitement flooded out of me. And the red box flooded in.

"Kate? Kate?" Justin said repeatedly waving his hand in front of my face.

"Yeah? I sorry, I got the job!" I said. I felt an overwhelming feeling of nausea and the I bolted into the bathroom and threw up into the toilet.

"Are you okay?" Justin asked gathering me up in his arms. I nodded and then started sobbing. "Shhhh, it's alright." He cooed rubbing my back.

"She's just really excited, I think..." Selena told Justin. I nodded and then sat up.

"I'm fine I just got a little too excited." I said then washed my mouth out.

"I threw up before my first concert I know what's it like." Justin said. If only he knew, if only he knew.

"We need to celebrate!! We are going to Beverly Hills for dinner!" Selena announced.

"Yay!" I exclaimed weakly.

"You must have been really good for them to call you so soon!" Selena said as we ate.

"Well it is an independent movie." I replied.

"Don't cut yourself short Kate. You did great!!!" Selena exclaimed. I smiled in appreciation to her complement. We finished eating and when we got home I just collapsed on my bed. Why did things have to be so hard!? Why couldn't the creepy texter just leave me alone. I pulled the red box out of my underwear drawer and removed the contents. If I didn't do this my whole career would be ruined. Even Justin chose his career over me. Nobody would ever know it was me. I'm sure he has an épée pen too. No one would know, I could go after my career. I wouldn't have to pretend to love Justin. It could work, maybe....

"Wakeup!" Selena yelled as she yanked the covers off of me.

"Why?" I moaned pulling the covers up over my head.

"Because its 1:30!" She said pulling the covers off of me again. "I made pancakes!" She offered.

"Ok ill get up." I yawned.

"So are you excited for our party?" Selena asked enthusiastically.

"Yeah! It's gonna be great." I replied flashing her a huge smile. But really I was dreading it.

"I can't wait for it! You're friend Anna is coming right?" She asked.

"Yeah, she's coming." I replied shoveling more pancakes into my mouth so I wouldn't have to talk about it anymore.

"I must have made these really good this time!" She exclaimed. I nodded my head and kept stuffing myself. Why couldn't she just go away. "When your done eating we're gonna go dress shopping!" Selena squealed excitedly.

"How does this one look?" Selena asked walking out of the changing room.

"It's a little to busy around the waist." I replied.

"You're right it is. Too many sequins." She agreed.

We went back into our changing rooms and I tried on a another dress. It was a strapless  floor length peachy pink not poofy dress. There was a beautiful silver beaded design on the left, right above my waist. It was perfect. I walked out of the changing room to show Selena my dress.

"It's beautiful." She said.

"Yours is too. I think we found our perfect dress." I exclaimed excitedly. Selena's dress was a strapless peppermint blue/green color that was floor length. The area above her waist was covered in a beautiful pattern of sliver beads. The fabric rippled as she walked and it looked beautiful. We excitedly bought our dresses and headed home.

"I can't believe they fit perfectly!" Selena gushed as we walked inside our house.

"I know right! It's incredible! They're perfect!" I exclaimed.

"I can't wait to wear them at our party!" Selena said.

"Yeah! It's gonna be really fun!" I replied trying to hide my nervousness.

"My makeup artist is coming in to do our makeup!" Selena squealed.

"Yay!" I replied but the butterflies in my stomach worsened. Eventually I was able to escape Selena. I needed some time to think about what was going on and what I was gonna do. At the end of my pondering I painfully decided that I would do whatever it took to....
