Chapter 22

"So, you're Kate's brother." I ask as we sit down on a couch in my living room.

"Half brother to be exact. We share the same Dad. I had no idea she was my sister until a couple months ago. I had no way to contact her so I decided to just let it go. But then I saw her at a restaurant. And she and her husband Justin Bieber they weren't really getting along. And now she's disappeared." he explains.

"I know but Justin has nothing to do with Kate being missing. She's actually I'm so sorry to tell you this Alex but she's dead."

"What?" He gasps.

"She died in a fire at a hospital is Canada. They haven't found her body yet. But the police think it's because she burned..." I say and it breaks my heart to tell him this.

"I should've come earlier. I should've tried harder. Now I'll never get to meet her."

"I guess this is just the way it's supposed to be." I say and give him a hug.

"Kate also has a little sister. Her name is Summer. She was the one who found out about Kate being our sister."

"Kate always thought she was alone. But she really wasn't at all. She would have loved to meet you and Summer. You know actually why don't you bring Summer over tonight I would love to get to know you two."

"Really? That would be awesome!"

"It's no problem. I think it would help me have some closure." I reply.

"I'm glad to help anyway I can." He says. I smile at him and something flutters inside me. I've only met this guy for fifteen minutes and I think I'm falling for him. "Well, I should probably go now." He says and gets up.

"Yeah, I'll see you at six then?" I ask.

"Yeah that will work." He says. I walk him him to the door and open the gate around my house so he doesn't have to jump over it again.

"Hi Summer I'm Selena!" I say welcoming them into my house.

"Oh I already know who you are." She says and hugs me. I laugh and wrap my arms around her. Alex smiles at me and my heart flutters.

"So, how old are you Summer?" I ask as we eat.

"I'm sixteen!" she replies.

"Nice! Can you drive?" I ask.

"I just got my license a week ago." She exclaims.

"Awesome! Kate was an awful driver. It took her three tries to get her license." I reply.

"According to my behind the wheel teacher I am an average driver."

"Haha Justin is actually a really good driver." I say. Alex Summer and I continue to talk and I find that Summer is an extremely funny and sweet girl. Alex words cannot describe. But unfortunately I don't think he's interested.

We continue talking and I find out that Summer likes to draw.

"I like to draw. I sing a lot." She says and places a forkful of pasta in her mouth.

"Kate used to draw a lot actually!" I exclaim.

"Really! Could I see some of her work?" she asks.

"Um, it's all at Justin's house. But if it's okay with Alex I could take you guys there to see some of it." I say.

"Can we Alex?" she pleads.

"I guess what's the harm." He replies. "Uh where's your bathroom?" Alex asks.

"It's down the hall to the left." I reply. He nods his head and heads to the bathroom.

"Selena, how did Kate and Justin start dating. I mean how'd she get to meet you guys. Like how come she's famous. What I mean is-"

"I know what you mean." I reply giving her a reassuring smile.

"Justin actually met Kate in an alleyway. It's complicated but I guess in a way Justin saved her. But maybe she was better off in that alley way." I explain and trail off tears sting my eyes and I have to dig my nails into my hand to keep from letting a tear slip. I take a deep breath and begin again. "Kate's mother abused her. So she ran away and was lucky enough to find Justin. At first sight Justin fell in love with Kate. Eventually she fell in love with him. But it was kinda like the universe didn't want Justin and Kate to love each other. And it all came crashing down." As I explain this to Summer the smile on her face fades to sad frown.

"So she died unhappy." She asks.

"No, Summer she died broken."
