Chapter 40

Kate's P.O.V

"I will help you." A girl says walking up to me. "I have lived here my whole life and all I have witnessed is destruction."

"I will too." Another girl says walking up to me.

"I also will." A man joins in handing his gun to me." I stare in awe. These people are willing to help me. I know offer a chance at a real life, but it's still humbling. I hand the gun back to him.

"You're going to need it." I say. I turn to the other girls. "Thank you. You won't regret helping me. I'm Kate."

"Hope." The girl replies outstretching her hand. I freeze remembering that day in the hospital. Could she be? No that Hope wouldn't be this old by now.

"Bluejay" the other girl says.

"Ren." The man says.

"Hope, Bluejay, and Ren." I repeat. I wonder who named them. It's not like they have parents to name them.

"As soon as someone finds about this. The whole place will be on lock down. The fastest way out is through the 1st sector.  We'll have to steal a car from there." Bluejay says.

"I don't want to just escape. I want to destroy this place." I say.

"I have an idea."  hope offers. "Follow me."

We go to an armory room and gather all the explosives we can find. I think I know what Hope has in mind.

We follow Hope to a room in the basement. Pipes line the walls and large turbines run making it hard to hear anything.

"We place them here and then in each of the 4 sectors."

"We need to be out of here before they go off." Blue jay shouts over the turbines.

"We will if we split up. Hope you go to sector 1. Bluejay sector 3. I'll go to sector 2. Kate you go with bluejay she'll show you the way to sector 4. Once we place these ones we'll have 6 minutes before they go off. You'll have to place them and get out. There is an exit in each sector make sure you know where it is before you place these." Ren says. After placing the first in this room we leave to the separate sectors. I follow blue jay and separate from her to go to sector 4.

"Be careful." She says.

"You too." I reply and head into sector 4. I keep my head down and try not to draw attention to myself. This place is crawling with clones. I see the exit and start to walk towards it.

"You! What's your number?" A clone asks. She looks like she's in charge. I don't know my number. Maybe she's not asking me. I continue walking and I hear her again.

"Number 2275 stop!" She is definitely talking to me. I freeze fearful of what could happen.

"This is not your sector. Why are you here?" She asks.

"Delivery?" I attempt lifting up the bag with explosives.

"There wasn't a need for a delivery."  I sigh knowing what I have to do. I throw the contents of the bag onto the floor and sprit towards the exit. Someone grabs me and spin around and punch them straight in the face. It's the same clone that was yelling at me. She falls back covering her bloody nose.
