Chapter 18

Justin's P.O.V

I pull out my phone and click the twitter app and scroll through tweets retweeting ones that stick out to me. I'm not quite sure if your allowed to just leave a hospital but when Kate makes up her mind there's no changing it. I just hope she's okay. She won't let me all the way in and I wish she would.

I frown as I see people running out of the hospital. I get out the car and run up to a lady running out of the building.

"What's going on?" I ask.

"There's a fire inside." She replies catching her breath. My heart drops. Kate's in there.

"What? Where?" I blurt out.

"I'm not sure. The fire alarm just went off." She says.

"What about the patients?" I ask.

"Uh I don't know. I was just here for a check up. I have to go. You should too." She replies and runs away.

"Wait, come back! My wife is in there!" I yell. She doesn't reply and just keeps running. Kate's probably on her way out. I'll wait 3 minutes and if she's not out by then I'll go and find her.

Three minutes pass and Kate hasn't come out. I run into the building pushing past people trying to exit. Where is Kate? I walk up to the elevator I'm about to push the button when I remember that your not supposed to use elevators when there's a fire. She must be upstairs in her room. I can see her there huddled in a corner as the fire caves in around her. I shake the thought from my head and take the stairs.

I run up the stairs trying my best not to shove any of the people going down. I get to Kate's floor and shove the door open there's smoke everywhere and I can't see much. I remember Kate's hallway being on the left. I stop as I realize that most of the smoke is coming from that hallway. I run into the hallway with only one thought. I have to save Kate.

There's fire everywhere and I can't see anything because the smoke is burning my eyes. I fall to the the ground coughing. I can see fire all around me and my vision starts to go blurry. Someone reaches down and grabs me. I'm being lifted and taken away. Away from the fire. Away from Kate. I start to thrash as I realize that they don't have Kate.

"You need to get Kate!" I scream trying my best to run back towards Kate's room.

"There's no one there sir. We need to go." The firefighter says.

"Are you sure?" I scream and then break out into a fit of coughs.

"Yes!" the firefighter yells back. I let out a sigh of relief as I realize that Kate is fine and that she got out. I follow the firefighter out of the hospital and am led over to an ambulance.

I walk over to my car wincing as I lift up my arm. I hadn't noticed until a medic had checked my arms. But I had gotten some pretty bad burns. I have no idea where Kate is and it's really starting to worry me. I called at least twenty times but it went straight to voice mail. Maybe she went home?

I get in my car and lift out my phone and dial my moms number.

"Hey sweetie! What's up?" She asks.

"Is Kate home with you?" I ask.

"No... why?" she asks confused.

"Mom, there was a fire at the hospital and Kate was in there and and I think I think." I say but can't finish tears start to build in my eyes and I know if I say another word I'll burst into tears.

"Justin honey calm down. I'm sure Kate's alright have you called her?" She asks.

"Yeah," I reply trying to swallow the lump in my throat.
