" Freen? "
Freen looked up, her breath catching in her throat. It was Becky, looking radiant in a simple sundress, her hair cascading down her shoulders in soft waves.
"Becky," Freen breathed, her heart pounding a frantic rhythm against her ribs.
"Freen," Becky replied, a warm smile lighting up her face. "Long time no see."
"Yeah," Freen managed, her voice a mere whisper. "It has been."
An awkward silence settled between them, thick with unspoken emotions. The air crackled with the remnants of their shared past, a past that had ended abruptly, leaving a gaping wound in their hearts.
"So," Becky started, her voice hesitant, "How are you?"
Freen swallowed hard, her throat suddenly dry. "I'm... okay," she said, forcing a smile. "How about you?"
"I'm good," Becky replied, her eyes sparkling with a newfound confidence. "Actually, I'm really good."
"That's great," Freen said, trying to sound genuinely happy. "What have you been up to?"
"Well," Becky said, her voice taking on a playful tone, "Life after the annulment has been... interesting."
Freen's heart sank. The annulment, a painful reminder of their failed marriage, hung heavy in the air.
"Interesting?" Freen echoed, her voice barely a murmur.
" Yeah. Pretty good. I hope you too had— "
" Becky! Love! "
Just then, Becky's expression shifted, a soft smile gracing her lips as she looked towards the window.
"Oh, there's Bright," she said, her voice filled with warmth.
Freen looked just to see Bright fast-approaching them. She nodded, a strange pang of jealousy shooting through her. Bright, Becky's current boyfriend, was a constant reminder of the life she had lost.
