Duke Ming continued to use his eyes to search for the poor unfortunate souls that dared attack him and his wife. He took a glance at his wife and said "I'll be back. Just stay hidden". Iva was about to retort but her husband gave her a reassuring smile "Don't worry. I will come back unscathed". She bit her lips hoping that truly he will be back unharmed.
"Okay" she uttered and the Duke's grip on his sword tightened as he quickly ventured into the thick forest. Despite the forest being dark due to the tall trees that blocked the moon light from reaching the forest grounds, there was still some traces of light passing through the spaces in the tree branches and leaves. Also, Duke Ming could smell their scents better now. He was a werewolf who could easily pick scents and from what his nose was getting, he could perceive two assassins few steps from where he was.He was subtle and quiet with his movements making it impossible for the assassins to notice him. With quiet steps, he finally got to where they were. Watching and calculating like the predator he was. "Where is he? I can't see him anymore. I think he has left the house". One said to the other, looking at the Duke's home. "I did see him enter the forest. We must be at alert" the other said as he took a firm hold of his bow and arrow. "Looking for me?" Duke Ming emerged from the shadows.
They were shocked that he was behind them the whole time and it caught them off guard enabling the Duke to quickly slice one of them in half in a twinkle of an eye. The other assassin felt his feet glued to the ground after seeing his colleague lying on the dirt with his body cut in half. But before he could regain himself, the sharp sword was already piercing through his own body. He felt blood steep from his mouth as his weapon fell from his hands. He noticed the Duke's eyes had turned blood red, he couldn't see the expression on the Duke's face due to the lack of light but he knew the man was overwhelmed with bloodlust. Duke Ming angrily twisted the sword which he had use to pierce the assassin, he twisted it from his belly and slowly cut him till the sword reached his heart. "No wonder...." the assassin coughed as he said his last words "No wonder they call you a monster" he spat blood and the Duke used the sword to slice through the assassin's heart making the man fall to his death.
Duke Ming was about to turn around when he felt an arrow pierce his side. He angrily pulled it out and quickly turned around just to see the rest of the assassins some steps away from him. He sighed as his eyes glanced at them, the surviving assassins were four in number. "I guess this is the only solution" The Duke said with a mischievous smile as he dropped his sword and began to transform right in front of them. They all shot arrows at him but it was futile because he wasn't in his human form anymore. Instead, they had a large black wolf with red eyes, snarling and showing off it's big sharp teeth in front of them."We can still take him down, draw out your daggers" one of the assassins said to the others and they quickly dropped their bow and arrow but before they could reach for their dagger, two simultaneously found themselves in the mouth of the wolf. It bit them, breaking their bones and leaving chunks of flesh to fall to the ground. Duke Ming had inhaled their scent earlier and found out that those two he killed earlier were humans and this remaining four were vampires. The vampires hated the werewolves but the one they hated the most was Duke Ming. They hated him so much to the extent that they agreed to be assassins and work beside humans without ripping them apart and drinking their blood. Their hate for Duke Ming surpassed their bloodlust and pride and they were willing to do anything to eliminate the man who wiped out almost all the vampires in Azerath. Knowing that they were not humans like the others, Duke Ming decided to change to his wolf firm and kill them instead. Vampires were strong and they were one of the apex predators but they still couldn't overcome a werewolf's bite for it was detrimental to them.
