When I head back upstairs to Khai's room, I sit on his bed, observing him again. I really hope whatever happened when he was younger isn't coming back now. I hope he's going to be okay.
Why does life always have to do this to me?
I sigh and lay down on my stomach next to him, picking up his sketchbook to look at the Halloween costume designs again.
I remember him telling that he was into fashion design. Back then he said he didn't think he was very good at it, but he clearly wasn't telling the truth.
Or maybe, he was just being humble about it.
I feel very tempted to see what else he's drawn, but I know I can't just invade his privacy like that. Maybe I'll ask him to see more of his designs when he's doing better.
If he gets better. I really hope this doesn't keep happening to him.
I sigh and set his sketchbook down once more, then cross my arms and rest my head on them, studying Khai yet again.
I just like being so close to him. I like it when our faces are inches apart.
It's too bad the context isn't different, though.
I still don't know when or if I'll tell him he's the one I'm crushing on. He seems to be having so much going on right now and usually, timing is everything.
On the other hand, the urge to kiss him is just getting stronger everyday. I've even had to catch myself a few times or I would've already.
I tuck a lock of hair behind Khai's ear, unable to help myself from gazing at him longingly.
I just want to hug him and make sure he's alright.

I'm not sure how long I lay with Khai, but eventually, I hear the front door opening, followed by Hazel and Rassler's voices.
I carefully get up, trying not to wake Khai even though it doesn't look like he's having the sweetest dreams at the moment.
Despite how tired he is, he doesn't lay very still and his facial expressions seem disturbed.
I observe him sympathetically for a few seconds before leaving his room and heading downstairs.
Rassler is helping Hazel carry in the groceries. He smiles at me, then glances at Hazel worriedly.
He doesn't have to say anything, because Hazel notes my presence and that her son isn't with me immediately
"Where's Khai?" She asks.
I glance behind her at Rassler, who just nods at me.
"He's had a rough day, he's exhausted." I start. "He passed out at school for quite a while and it sapped him of his energy."
Hazel's face clouds with concern, and she rushes past me.
She pauses by the stair rail.
"Is he in his room?" She asks.
"Yeah, he's asleep though."
Hazel nods and is about to go upstairs anyways before I stop her.
"Why didn't you tell Khai how sick he was when he was born?" I want to know.
Hazel looks thoughtful for a few seconds.
"I... don't know, really." She says at last. "I suppose I didn't want to scare him and it just never came up and I didn't know when to tell him or in what context to do so. And now it feels too late. If I tell him now he'll wonder why I didn't tell him sooner." She adds.
