"I suppose that's true... and I got to walk on the way here. So it's fine by me." I say.

Tyrone nods.

"At least you won't be late because of me." He adds.

"Even if we are, it wouldn't be because of you. It was my choice to come find you." I point out. "And I know you would do the same for me."

Tyrone shrugs.

"Fair enough."

When Tyrone and I arrive at school, most of the students are already in class.

We split up to save some time, each heading to our own locker.

But of course, mine is the stubborn one, and today it decides to give me more trouble than on any other day when it wouldn't matter so much.

Always when I'm running late.

I tug at it as hard as I can, wishing that perhaps someone a little stronger was assigned to this specific locker. Why couldn't I have had to one right next to it?

"Pleaseeee... I know you're an inanimate object and you can't hear me but I really need my stuff..." I whine.

I stop struggling for a moment, wondering if there's a different way to open it than just using my strength alone.

Scarlette seems to have it figured out.

I frown and try again, more gently this time.

I sigh when it still doesn't work.

Now I'm still going to be late after all.

Desperation takes over, and I begin trying to pull it open with as much strength as I have again.

By the time Tyrone rejoins with me, I'm still nowhere.

"Khai, relax." He says, placing a hand on my shoulder as I continue my vigorous battle with the locker door.

"It won't open..." I tell him, feeling somewhat overstimulated again. "I'm still gonna be late."

Tyrone stares at me for a few seconds, then stares at my locker, then back to me.

He sighs.

"Khai maybe try unlocking it first..."

I stare at him dumbfounded for a few seconds, then look back at my locker to realize that he is in fact right... I haven't even put in my combination yet.

"Why do I have to be so stupid..."

"You're not stupid, Khai. You're just in a rush. And to be fair, your locker usually does give you problems." Tyrone tells me.

I don't reply and just focus on unlocking the stupid thing.

Once that's done, I glance at Tyrone and see that he's trying to hide a smile.

"Never change." He says.

I laugh softly, but my expression changes to a flat stare when the locker door remains shut, even though it's now unlocked.

"You are making me want to say bad words." I tell it.

I try again and this time, it finally flings open, almost knocking me with it.

"Guess it didn't want you to say bad words." Tyrone says, his amused smirk ever-so-present on his face.

I chuckle while I quickly collect my math supplies, and after, we both rush to class.
