***Tyrone's POV***

It's been bothering me a lot recently: the thought that I can't stay here forever. Soon I have to go back to my shithole of a home, whether I like it or not.

Today marks exactly a week since Boris tried to kill me. Yesterday night, if we're being technical. The thought of going back makes me sick to my stomach, but I know I can't stay at Khai's too much longer.

I'm sure Khai won't mind, but I know my mom isn't going to stay with my grandpa. And when she goes back, I'm going back too because there's no way I'm gonna let that happen to her again.

And I still haven't heard from her since I found out she was sick.

A nauseating amount of uneasiness sweeps over me, so much so that I lean forward and place my hands on my knees to support my upper body.

"Ty... you can stay as long as you want. Are you alright?" Khai asks.

"Y-yeah. I'm fine." I reply quickly.

"Are you still in a lot of pain?"

"No as much as I was. Thank you, by the way."

Khai sighs with relief.

"You're welcome. I'm glad whatever I've been doing has helped. Though I can't take the credit for any medical achievements because I've only been doing what you told me to... sorry. I'm going on about non-important stuff and I don't know why."

"You're fine, Khai."

"Let's go get supper. Is you mom still going to be here for Thanksgiving this coming Monday?" Khai asks.

"I don't know, I think so. She said she would, but I haven't talked to her in a bit. And she was sick, so..."

I stop there, not really knowing what else to say.

Khai crawls across his bed to sit beside me instead of behind.

"Do you miss her?" He asks.

"I never see much of her to begin with, so not really. But I am a little worried, though."

"Yeah, that makes sense. She's your mom."

After supper, I head upstairs to Khai's room so I can check in on my mom. She's left her phone unanswered, so I resort to calling her dad, or my grandpa, instead.

"Hey grandpa. How's mom doing? Is she still sick?" I ask.

"Hi kiddo. She's doing alright. She is feeling a bit under the weather, though." There's a pause, and when my grandpa doesn't say anything else, I do.

"Should I come over? I wanna see her."

The silence continues for a few seconds before I hear my grandpa take a deep breath.

"I don't know. I mean, I'm not going to stop you."

I feel both confused and suspicious.

"Is something going on?" I want to know.

"Well... okay, maybe you should come over."

I'm on my feet in an instant, my heart beginning to race.

"I'm gonna be there as soon as I can be." I say, then hang up, glancing around Khai's room to see if there's anything I should bring with.

After the initial panic settles somewhat and I'm able to think, I pick up my phone, then abruptly open the bedroom door so I can leave.
