***Tyrone's POV***

Khai sighs as we walk home.

"Should I even go? I mean, on one hand I don't want to be home alone on Halloween, but on the other, everybody's talking bad about my mom and I and they'll probably just bully me if I show up." Khai expresses his concerns.

"Okay, Khai. First of all, not gonna happen because I'll be by your side and if anyone tries, they'll have to deal with me. Secondly, I'd stay with you if you're really not up to it so you wouldn't be alone. However, you put all this effort into the costumes and you were finally going to enjoy a Halloween instead of hiding in your house. So don't let those assholes bring you down. Don't let them take that from you. If you don't show up, they win. I say you march in there with your epic costume like you own the place and shrug anything mean anyone says to you off."

Khai smiles at me and pulls me in to a quick hug.

"You're the best. And your really good at pep talks." He says. "It just makes me feel all the more horrible for jumping to conclusions about you."

"Oh Khai, please don't start with that. It gave me a growth opportunity. Or like like a self-realization moment. If that hadn't happened, I would've never learned that I can manage my emotions in a healthy way, after all. It gave me some confidence, like I don't have to be so afraid I'll hurt you."

"Well, that's good. The problem is that now I might hurt you." Khai says, pouting.

"Then so be it. That won't change that you're the best thing that's happened to me... and I know I say that a lot but that's because it's true. I'd rather have me hurt then you."

"You're too sweet. But that's also kinda sad. But it's okay though cause I really don't like hurting people so I will avoid doing so wherever possible."

I smile at him.

There it is again, the urge to tell him I love him.

The best part is that I can actually believe it myself. Finally.

I almost think that's an even bigger step than telling Khai.

When the two of us get home, I seat Khai down in the kitchen.

"Fear not, your mother isn't the only one who knows how to tend to an injury or two." I let him know.

"It was just a blood nose... and a couple kicks."

"Yes... and you've got blood all over your face." I pause, my eyebrows furrowed.

"Are you mad at me?" Khai asks quietly after I don't say anything for a while.

I make eye contact with with Khai, slightly confused.

"No, Khai, of course not." When Khai looks unconvinced, I expand. "It's just... Geoffrey and Noah have got some nerve. I can't believe they'd do that again, and when you may have had a concussion prior... I mean, not that they know that, but still... it's just diabolical."

"I feel yucky... and sticky." Khai says, distracted. He glances down at his shirt which is stained from his blood nose earlier.

"Do you want to change quickly?" I ask. "Well, you might have to take your shirt off anyways, if my assumptions are correct and you are injured elsewhere."

"I might be... my ribs still hurt." Khai says, pouting again.

It so cute, I can't help but smile.

"I wanna take a shower before the party, too." He tells me.
