Complications

I've been hunting horrors for long enough to know how fear works. It doesn't come from the creature itself, that's only part of it. The true terror lies in the unknown. The stories they tell, the whispers in the cities, the way people look at you when they think you're walking towards something they can't understand. That's where fear grows.

I think the people fear me more than the creatures I slaughter. But I've seen how people who live in constant fear of things they can't control, like illness, or the passing of time, or the politics of a leader, become far more dangerous. They lash out. They hurt those closest to them. In the end it's not the monsters that break them. It's the fear of what they can't change.

How can you do this?

What do you mean?

I am sooo tired... how can you do so much without rest?

Simple. I drink botulinum toxins.

Botu— what now?

Botulinum toxins. Extremely lethal for the average human. In my case it boosts the release of acetylcholine in the neuromuscular—

Okay, okay, I get it! You're smart, but for the love of god stop acting like such a nerd.

Rias: Y/N!

Great, just what I wanted to hear.

Y/N: What took you so long?

Rias: Sorry, I didn't mean to be late.

Y/N: I've waited for over half an hour now woman.

Rias: I'm sorry okay? Now can we move on with our date?

Don't let her off the hook that easily.

Y/N: Fine, where's this horror house again?

Rias: Actually let's go eat first. I didn't even drink any tea in the morning because I was preparing for this date. You should be happy.

Ugh. Isn't tea just water with leaves? I will never understand why people drink that crap.

Y/N: Makeup doesn't impress me if that's what you're asking.

Rias: I need to know this. What does impress you?

Y/N: Not much. We can eat breakfast, but where?

Rias: You know this city better than I do. Surely you can recommend something.

Y/N: Only restaurant I frequently visit is a dinner. Not open at this time of day unfortunately.

Said dinner is actually a hub for central intelligence operatives.

Rias: Maybe we could eat there after we finish our date?

Y/N: How about you leave the strategical thinking to me and just pick a place already.

Rias: Hmm... what about this one?

She pointed to a nearby cafe that I may or may not have hospitalized the previous owner. Luckily for me I was wearing my goggles when I did that so hopefully no one will kick me out.

Y/N: I have some bad history with the owner there but hopefully he doesn't hold a grudge. Fine, we can eat there.

Rias: Before we do. What did you do to the owner?

Y/N: (flashback)

Owner: (inhumane screams)

Legend: You wanna know the best part? I can relocate it and break it again.
