The place smells of perfume and coffee. Folding chairs scrape against cracked concrete. Azazel called the meeting, so she sits at the head of the table with her notebook already open. I take a chair on the side, arms crossed, waiting for the migraine to start.
Azazel: (smiling, tapping her pen) Alright, everyone. This isn't a social hour. Yasaka's been taken. Chaos Beigade's handiwork.
Legend: They're holding her at the old George Air Force Base. Base's been abandoned since 1992. Don't ask how I know.
Irina: (leaning forward, anxious) So... what's the plan?
Azazel: That's why you're all here. To discuss how to get her out before things escalate.
Asia: (worried) An Air Force base... won't humans notice us?
Legend: They'll notice less after it explodes. Besides, place is in the Mojave desert. Nearest human should be 2 miles away in Adelanto.
Xenovia: (resting hand on the sword) Then we attack tomorrow. Swift, decisive. I want to test this improved sword.
Issa: (grinning) Sounds good to me. I've been training for this.
Legend: Correction. You've been tripping over yourself while people throw rocks at you. Training implies improvement.
The warehouse door groans open. A surge of sparkly aura fills the room. Bright, loud, irritatingly cheerful. Serafall steps in, all smiles and energy. She's late.
Serafall: (hands on hips striking a magical-girl pose) Serafall Leviathan! Envoy from the underworld, at your service! And of course, Hellfighter, awaiting orders!
Legend: You already know your orders.
Irina: Orders? Does she work for you now?!
Serafall: Yep! I'm now a Secretary of State.
Issa: Is she really the best choice for that spot?
Legend: You'd be surprised. I called her here to act as backup and to improve relations with the Youkai.
Azazel: This mess is bigger than Heaven or Hell alone. Yasaka matters to all sides. Lucky us the Three Factions have all pledged support.
Legend: Lucky wouldn't be my word.
Serafall: (grinning) Don't be so gloomy, Hellfighter! You'll see, I'll be super-duper useful!
Legend: That's what grenades say too.
Azazel: Enough. Tomorrow we strike George Air Force Base. The Hellfighter's intel says Yasaka is being held there. Chaos Brigade won't give her up easily.
Legend: Wrong there. Base is mostly defended by AALN.
Xenovia: Then we cut them down.
Asia: B-but what if Yasaka is hurt during the fight?
Azazel: That's why we have you, Asia. You'll stay close, heal who you can.
