Phobos loves his speeches. Can't swing a rifle in this place without his voice bleeding through the PA.
Speak of the devil.
Phobos: (over PA) So... you've chewed through my men, Legend of The Night. Predictable. Brutal. Tiresome. But you've reached the end of the rope. My ace will bury you.
Legend: I've heard it all before.
You've heard nothing. Don't let his words distract you.
Phobos: (over PA) Behold, the Gol3em! My perfect war engine. Armor impervious. Firepower limitless. A god of destruction, yours to contend with.
The ground trembles. A massive armored figure stomps into view twice the size of me, hauling a minigun that hums with murderous intent.
Legend: So. You've been working in secret for almost a year to deliver an oversized tin can?
Break it for me. Show me how easily you crush gods and monsters. I want to see you covered in their ruin.
The Gol3em roars, barrels spinning. A hurricane of bullets tears through walls and covers alike. I dive, sliding behind a half-collapsed barrier as debris rains down.
Legend: This night just keeps improving.
You say so because I'm here. Admit it, without me the world is just noise.
I started sprinting sideways through the storm of lead, unloading rounds at weak points. Sparks bounce harmlessly off the Gol3em's plating.
That won't work. Guy is a tank. But I bet he's all vulnerable under that armor.
I started punching its armor to minimal effect. However, just as I was about to retreat, a window of opportunity appeared.
Gol3em: No more!
He got pissed off and tried to grab me but instead I jumped on top of him and pulled his helmet off. Now you've got a weak point.
Phobos: (over PA) Fight back!
Legend: He's even uglier than me.
Don't compare yourself to him. You're beautiful in ways he could never dream. My monster. My blade. Mine.
After a brutal exchange of gunfire, beatdowns, and dodges, I finally get on top of him again and twist his neck. The giant crashes to the ground, shaking the hall.
Legend: I pity the janitor. There's at least a few hundred casings on the ground.
Overhead speakers sputter again. Can he not shut up for a single minute?
Phobos: (over PA) ...Impossible. That was my masterpiece. My champion! You can't—
Legend: I just did.
Phobos, enraged, sends in his final wave of AAHW grunts. Doors slam open, soldiers pour in, shouting and firing. I moved through them like smoke, cutting down one after another. Gunfire, screams, then silence.
The thing about armies is, once the illusion of invincibility shatters, so does the army.
The last few soldiers see the Gol3em's wreck, see the trail of corpses, and freeze. Their weapons clatter to the floor. One starts screaming and they all scatter in pure terror. Now only Phobos stands in my way.
